Gallus gallus

Description

Borneo is not the natural range of the red jungle fowl but allegedly it had been introduced into oil palm plantations of Eastern Sabah not too long ago. It has since become firmly established and big flocks of them can be commonly seen in plantations in the Lahad Datu,Kinabatangan and other neighbouring districts. This photo is taken in one of the plantations near Lahad Datu, and the species can be distinguished from Domestic Chicken by their "white ear" and the fact that they can REALLY fly when approached

Identification

Location: Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia

'Spadiceus or Gallus'

It could be G.g.gallus because of the 'white ear patch' charateristic but not G.g.spadiceus. Must be from the closest Asia mainland area, or maybe originating from Peninsular Malaysia.
