Identification

Distribution

Northwest India, Burma, Indochina, Hainan, Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies recognized[1].:

  • I. humilis humilis on the Malayan Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Banggai and Sula Islands
  • I. humilis plumbeus from northwest India to southeast Asia and Hainan (south China)

Formerly placed in genus Haliaeetus .

Habitat

Forested rivers and streams, wooded swamps up to 2,400m in the Himalayas.
