Identification
23–25 cm (9-10 in)
- Reddish-brown head, neck and breast
- Paler throat
- Greyish-brown upperparts
- Black and white barring on underparts and underwing
- Green bill
- Red legs and feet
Sexes similar though female has narrower barring on underparts with head and neck appearing more cinnamon
Distribution
Lowlands of South EastAsia, Malay Archipelago and the Philippines
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Wetlands including swamps and reedy marshes, rice paddyfields, rivers, riparian thickets.
Behaviour
Breeding
Their clutch contains 3-6 dull white eggs. No description of the nest is available.
