Eurylaimus ochromalus

Identification

13.5–15 cm. Blue bill, black head, white band at throat, whitish to rosy breast, yellow behind abdomen, black wings with yellow bands, black tail with white spots.

Distribution

Myanmar, Thailand, Sabah, Sarawak and Malaysia, Singapore, Kalimantan (including the Natuna Islands), Sumatra, Java, Bali, Indonesia and Brunei.

Taxonomy

There are 3 subspecies

  • E. o. ochromalus
  • E. o. mecistus
  • E. o. kalamantan

Clements, however, records this species as being monotypic.(1)

Habitat

Primary lowland evergreen forest, swamp forest and forest edge, secondary growth and adjacent plantations. It occurs mainly in the lowlands, up to 1,200 m.

Diet

The diet includes insects.

Breeding

2-3 eggs are laid; breeding is between February and October depending on locality.
