Phylloscopus tenellipes

Identification

10-11cm. Medium sized, wing-barred leaf warbler with a shortish stout bill. Head; crown brown to greyish brown contrasting, with, especially when fresh olive brown upperparts; strong, long creamy supercilium emphasised by equally long dark eyestripe; ear coverts mottled greyish-brown; median and greater coverts tipped pale often appearing as individual tips; underparts white, including throat, with a brownish wash to the flanks; bill brownish horn with pale cutting edge to the upper and base of lower mandible; legs, pale pink though can appear pale grey-blue. Call a distinctive short metallic 'tink' or rising 'tsik'

Cambodia, China, India, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Habitat

Breeds in Temperate forests nesting in wooded river valleys and undergrowth up to 1800m; winters in mangroves and lowland scrub.

Behaviour

Quite secretive, spends most of the time foraging low down on branches and on the ground amongst undergrowth, often with a downward pumping of the tail.
