Hi
I have a week or so with family at their country retreat, a former mission house nr Vagsjofors (excuse missing accents) N of Torsby, where the E45 hangs right. I've seen some decent woodpeckers on the Vagsjofors site list, and also some good birds at Naturreservatet Fänstjärnsskogen which seems to be about 25km east. Not much in August, though. I could probably get there, once, but will be generally pedestrian.
Should I bother birding hard, or should I concentrate on catching a few fish for tea? ie leave the 'scope, take the rods, or do I have a chance of any decent woodpeckers, other crossbill spp, or anything else at this time of year? I suppose a hawk owl is out of the question?!
Thanks for any pointers.
