Rose-coloured Starling - Nottinghamshire??!! (1 Viewer)

A report in Decembers Birdwatching Magazine on the Bird ID pages (includes a picture)! Only clues are "small Nottinghamshire village" and the names "Chris and Oliver Beacock". Clutching at straws here but does anybody have any further info?

Cheers, Sam

No idea.

Suppression would be one thing - in a private garden understandable even, but then printing the photos in a national magazine? Now that's a kick in the teeth!

Not really, let's assume this record is gen for a moment. Many readers of the popular birding magazines are simply people who thrill in watching the birds in the garden, have little or no contact with the wider birding community. A bird out of the ordinary turns up, they get a snap, what to do - simply send it to their magazine that publishes similar images month after month.

Or there again, maybe it was in a locality that would simply cause grief with the neighbours if the news was released widely. Why should that mean they can not share the exceitement with a birding magazine?

Hi James,

Perhaps I didnt make it clear enough. It was on the "Bird ID" section - ie they werent sure of its identity and so asked Birdwatching Magazine (theyd already guessed at Rose-coloured Starling). I did a bit of research and found that there is a C**** B****** near Newark somewhere.

Cheers, Sam

Just recieved some further info about the sighting. It appears that it was at Barneby-in-the-Willows on the 30th October with c.50 Starlings.

I saw what can only be assumed is a different bird (juv again) today for approx 20 seconds opposite Radcliffe Animal Shelter along the A52 It was on the power lines briefly and then flew alongside the car. Was with a small group of Common Starling. Didnt have time to stop and look as I was on my way to football. Pale rump was seen rather well and the bill looked very pale.
