How to deter hawks from the chickens? (1 Viewer)

My neighbour has three chickens which walk freely in his farmyard. Today they were attacked by a couple of hawks. He chased the hawks away, and miraculously, all chickens survived with just scratches and lost feathers.

Can you suggest a (non-violent & safe for everyone involved) way to deter the hawks from the chickens? He hanged up some old CDs around the farm, but they don't seem to work that well during winter when there is little sunlight.

Chicken wire is your best friend when dealing with predators. You may need to build a frame but itll stop hawks, coyotes, and foxes
