Cheapest place to get to from London (1 Viewer)

Even if not technically the cheapest or closet, Skomer is simply stunning - all the birds you seek, especially Puffins, will be bobbing about on the water mere metres from you before you even land on the island. Early in the season, when everything is to the backdrop of bluebells across the island, with Choughs overhead and seals hauled out on rocks, I think there are few places in Europe to match, let alone in Britain.

So, my advice for what it's worth, if it is only a few pounds different, take the Pembrokeshire option.

Sounds interesting. BTW Is Easter too early for these places? I guess so.
I will certainly go to Skomer one day although maybe not next year

The boat for Skomer runs from Good Friday or 1 April, whichever earlier. First

Puffins tend to arrive middle to end of March (I think), other auks are on the cliffs from earlier. However, for the island's real glory mid-April to May are far better.

To see them at their best, yes. Late April to early June would be best, maybe one of the May bank holiday weekends if you are short of annual leave. If it was me I would go in early May.

Cheers Paul

Cracking views of Short Eared Owls there this year as well. Didn't realise it was such a significant breeding area for this species in Wales.

The Farnes are at their best in late May to late June. In early May, many of the terns (and particularly Roseates) won't be in yet.
