I was out with two other birders and we saw 2 Willets at Hammonasset State Park. Keep in mind, it was 20 degrees Fahrenheit, and snowing - Connecticut is in the Willet's summer range, but the year-round range extends only as far north as Maryland (according to Sibley). We could barely believe it, but of course, we didn't really have time to stop and think because I promptly fell in ice-cold water and had to make a 20 minute run back to the car so that I wouldn't get frostbite. Fun times. Lifer and year-bird for me.
