Northern oriole group

Jacobsen & Omland (in press). Extensive introgressive hybridization within the northern oriole group (Genus Icterus) revealed by three-species isolation with migration analysis. Ecol Evol. [pdf]

Hagemeyer, Sturge, Omland & Price 2012. Incomplete song divergence between recently diverged taxa: syllable sharing by Orchard and Fuertes’ orioles. J Field Ornithol 83(4): 362–371. [abstract]

Ochre/Fuertes's Oriole Icterus (spurius) fuertesi is recognised as a distinct species by HBW and IOC; but not by AOU, BirdLife or Clements.

The substance of the debate and the fascinating implications reflect the importance of keeping the 'don't know for certain' aspects not only in mind, but in full view. Hence my adherence to my Bird Forum motto, and the emphasis of uncertainty implicit in the OSME Region List for many taxa.
