I and a couple of friends visited Andalucia in November 2008. I have attached an Excel-file showing the route and the number of each species encountered each day (so it isn't a proper trip report, but perhaps it can still be useful to someone). Note that there's a map on the second sheet!

In many cases the numbers are not exact, but rather crude estimates.

Thats a very successful trip CAU :t: . Well done on 31 Black-Shouldered Kites !!

The winter of 2008 was exceptional for Black-shouldered Kites in the southern parts of Spain. Unusually cold inclement conditions in central Spain resulted in a mini migration of many of these birds to warmer climes in the southern parts. Extremadura was also inundated with them, and it was the norm for a day out to produce many sightings. Its not usually that easy !!!!

1 in a flock of Teals (and one Garganey) at Brazo del Este (at about 37°6'20.04"N, 6°2'26.69"W) 20/11

White-headed Duck
very roughly about 80 individuals at Laguna de Medina 18/11
no birds at Laguna de Tarelo 19/11
4 at Cañada de Rianzuela 20/11
1 at a small pond at the watchpoint at Laguna de Fuente de Piedra 23/11
4 at the mouth of Rio Guadalhorce 23/11

Cinereous Vulture
about 15 at and southwest of Almonaster la Real 22/11

Spanish Imperial Eagle
3 in Doñana (around the JAV centre) 21/11
1 juvenile southwest of Almonaster la Real 22/11

Bonelli's Eagle

totally 27 flying in several flocks between Osuna and La Jantejuela 23/11

common at the golf course west of the mouth of Rio Guadalhorce
