As Guy noted recently wrt Socotra Buzzard, BirdLife's Globally Theatened Bird Forums give an insight into species set for recognition in the next update of the BirdLife Checklist (presumably V4, 2011). Those currently discussed include:

off topic slightly, i don't seem able to download the v3 checklist, when i try it says something like "can't open, not a valid archive".
has anyone else had a similar problem??

Merops muelleri has been split into M. muelleri and M. mentalis by the BirdLife Taxonomic Working Group on the basis of significant morphological differences, and genetic analysis in Marks et al. (2007).
