Salmon

Guineaport this morning - 4 lapwing, 2 culrew, 2 little grebe, black headed gull, goosander (video here but its blowing a gale so a bit shakey!).
1 BIG salmon jumped clear out of the water onto the bank - oh to be on the other side!! (it wriggled back in).

There was a 2 foot long salmon seen splashing over the new spillway on the Amble stream at Walmsley on Wednesday. It must have managed to swim up through the tidal flap at the dam!
There was I questioning why they had to put a fish pass on the new water splash in the reserve.
Good to see though.

Thats cos they were all in at Walmsley. I went in to close down the main sluice at about 16:00 and it was teeming with birds. Hundreds of teal took off along with wigeon, mallard, Tufties and other duck. Also many lapwings, dunlin, Bk.T.Godwit & curlew. Also 1 spoonbill and 3 Little Egret.
Water levels have risen such that there must be a lot of food coming to the surface in the newly flooded areas.

Whatever is reported from this site and used on other bird news sites is fine by me as long as I’m not misquoted. Even if I do happen to be wrong. If it’s to be the opinion of the editor, then let them put their name to the edit. So far at least I have never mentioned " American Golden Plover" in relation to the bird seen recently at Dinham Flats.
