We saw a female black grouse with some chicks, a couple of distant male black grouse in flight, at least 3 nesting curlews and a few common redstarts. Highlight was a couple of minutes...

This new dog needs a lot of work lol, so proper birding seems to be off the agenda for a while. Anyway whilst being dragged up the leete path at loggerheads did see a lovely dipper on the alyn, posing nicely on the opposite bank long enough for several photos except I had a lively dog instead of...

Yesterday we visited Chirk Castle, wonderful place and beautiful gardens. On the walk up to the castle there was a newly fledged jackdaw at the side of the road, the castle itself and its outbuildings were swarming with nesting swallows and house martins. The gardens are beautiful, swallows...

A pleasant couple of non-birding hours in Ruthin this pm. The reward for forgetting my camera was 2 peregrines perched on st peters church. A friendly local pointed them out, apparently they nest there most years, maybe worth a trip if anyones in the area. Coming home, a little egret was in the...

A skein of about 100 geese (think they were Canada) flew over our house in saltney this morning abt 8.30, heading SE, I don't know where they go but we regularly get flocks flying over am then back pm. I reckon if they kept on that heading they would pass slightly to the East of Wrexham, maybe...

thanks for that! I've only ever seen one barn owl here and that was further back towards saltney by the farm buildings at the railway bridge. I usually forget to look at the fields on the other side of the road! I've not seen the brown hares down here for a few months either.
