    And if part of the idea - agree with or not - is to encourage 'non'birders' to become birders, surely their opinion is relevant.

    Mine are written all over. I look through photos on ebird before a trip and make id notes etc. They're just a tool for me. Obviously I'd never be able to sell them second hand.

    Really? I presume you have researched that Paul. Maybe it's a thing with your local trust. The Suffolk Wildlife Trust does a lot for schools/children. This is a long-standing thing. They certainly had a very busy education officer when I worked there about 26 years ago and they do a lot now.
