Spotted Flycatcher in Strid Woods this morning. Seen going in to one of the nest boxes near the stone hut. No Redstarts today, but a fair few Pied Flycatchers.

Friend of mine was up there last week, and had nothing. We're heading for our annual BF Tyke Dawn Chorus walk on May Day so hopefully some stuff should have turned up by then.

    Yorkshire Birding

There are Nightjar at Timble this year as well, but extremely difficult to see due to the height of the trees in the plantation. I heard possibly 2 different birds on Sunday night around 10 p.m.

    Yorkshire Birding

Not that unusual. Quite a few in Strid Woods at Bolton Abbey so don't see why there shouldn't be any in the Washburn Valley.

    Yorkshire Birding

We didn't hear a single one when Keith, Ken & I were there a couple of weeks ago. I revisited last Thursday, didn't hear anything, and was speaking to another birder who was in the same position. Impressed with the number of Redstart there this year though :-)

    Yorkshire Birding

As above. When we were there last Sunday the biggest concentration of Pied Fly & Redstart was between the entrance to the woods & the Stone Hut on the left (downstream) bank. There were also a number of Spotted Fly on the opposite bank between the aquaduct and Barden Bridge parking area. Richard

Think I would have stopped at Cairns & Hickey & then bought a celebratory bottle if it was one B (: Let me know how you get on, but won't be able to get there before Saturday. Richard

Worked it out now, thanks :-) Only 15 mins from the C&G building so should have time between or after exams.

Is this still around?? I've to be at the City & Guilds building on Thursday for exams so might have time to catch up with it while I'm in the area. Any pointers where the lake is in relation to C&G (WF1 2UN) would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard

Dom gets dropped off at Fairburn at 9 & I come straight back home, so I won't be there until 10-ish myself.

Might call in then in the morning on my way back from dropping Dom at Fairburn.

    Yorkshire Birding

My usual flying visit to Adel Dams on Saturday has ended up causing rather a lot of excitement when I posted this picture on a few FB pages. Reported again yesterday apparently. Will try & pay a return visit over the next couple of days.

    Yorkshire Birding

As Joe says, pretty much the whole area is shut to traffic. Le Tour comes back through Addingham on Sunday, so most of the roads up into the Dales are no-go. Possibly the easiest access will be up on to Ilkley Moor from the Cow & Calf rocks. Good mix of moorland species up there. Richard

    Yorkshire Birding

In reality how long would birds such as Pied Fly & Redstart be likely to remain in Strid Woods?? The weather for this weekend looks shocking & am unlikely to be able to get back there for another photo opportunity until next weekend. Richard

Is that Storiths Lane?? If so, whereabouts? Richard

Area around Harewood is excellent for Red Kite. Richard

    Yorkshire Birding

Although you may want to avoid next Monday as my daughter's school year (Year 6, so aged 11) will be descending on Strid Woods for their geography field trip 3:-) Having said that, there are some cracking birds to be seen - On Saturday afternoon I saw more Redstarts than I've ever seen in the...

    Yorkshire Birding

Whereabouts in Otley was this?? Would be good to get another local Otter (& kingfisher for that matter!!) as I'm only down the road in Burley. PM me if you don't want to put the details on a public forum. Richard

No doubt it'll have moved on before the weekend as I'm heading that way on Sunday :-C

Thanks for the info Chris. Just found some more info on the Bolton Abbey website, and looks like I'll have to plan another visit. Am going with the family including the pooch, and the website says dogs aren't allowed in the Valley of Desolation.

Heading that way on Sunday. Be interested to know more about where this pond is (PM if appropriate). Richard

Despite the weather my local Tree Sparrows seem to be doing OK. This youngster was happily waiting to be fed here in Burley.

Decent, but distant, views of a pair of Cuckoos at Timble this evening. No Owls this time though.
