I've seen odd descriptions of the site by people on the 'chat' function, but I got the impression that the owner of the cam is a bit reticent about the actual location, possibly because he wants to discourage casual visitors. That's just a guess , though.

First warbler of the spring here - Chiffchaff (quality not being of the best). Otherwise the real stars of the show are the Yellowhammers of which the males show up very nicely. Also, female Hawfinch seen - up to 3 (2 males) in recent days:

Two Hawfinches at 08:44 today. Also seen: Yellowhammer, Siskin, Bullfinch, male Greenfinch and Goldfinch (a new one for the cam) as well as all the usual visitors. I now have a better idea what the call of Willow Tit sounds like, as one was very vocal yesterday:

Hawfinch at 08:23 (also Bullfinch female at 08:17). The Hawfinch is new to me for this cam).

As well as Yellowhammer, Brambling just after 07:00 this morning and Grey Wagtail (new to me for the cam) at 12:24-25 on the burn. The dawn chorus at 7:00 was very loud (mainly Chaffinches, which are swarming at the moment). I wonder what spring migrants will happen along soon, if any:

Yep, it's a highlight, as is its less frequent mate. Also over the last couple of days 2 Siskins have been around, showing nicely.

Nearly all that I've seen are definitely Willow, but occasionally you get birds which seem to lack the pale patch on the wing, and with those I can never make up my mind. This is purely down to lack of field experience on my part. Also I'm not at all familiar with the calls, an additional handicap.

No food put out so not much about so far today, except this wee stotter, as they say in Glasgow (or used to):

Today 9:01 female Yellowhammer close to bottom left-hand corner and a bit later male Bullfinch just in front of the big tree at the back briefly. Fieldfare also back. Also at least 13 Hooded Crows

I thought I saw one Fieldfare but it moved off screen so fast I couldn't be sure. I lighten an image by taken a screengrab, saving in Windows 'Paint' and lightening it in 'PhotoFiltrre', an excellent small, basic editing suite with simple tools (and it's free). Yep, the snow sends the cam off...

Could easily happen again. The chat posters only spotted the later business with the Goshawk thinking there was only one, but I discovered the earlier visit and the 2nd bird by chance when scrolling back and forth trying to tie down the actual time of the event. The sight of a Gos galumphing...

Goshawk attack 11:15 to 11:20. These two pictures show the first Goshawk arriving and returning, but just at the moment it returns on the right a second Goshawk drops down at top left and goes into the bushes behind the big tree. The first bird moves from left into these bushes at 11:17 and one...

Plenty about today, Blackbird, Chaffinch (large nos.), Blue, Great and Willow Tits (at least two), several Jays, about a dozen Hooded Crows, Nuthatch, Pheasant. Never seen a House or Tree Sparrow here so far.

Yet Blue Tits make it to Shetland. I'm surprised that the Cresties haven't spread with feeders along river valleys.

Could be. The Speyside group might be a relict population, a more widespread distribution having shrunk over previous centuries. I don't know what the thinking about that question is these days. All the other Tits seem to have survived changes in the environment (although Willow's status in...

Crested Tit this morning. Why these birds seem to be common on the continent and remain so unusual and local in the UK is a puzzle. I have seen now Crested Tit at every webcam I watch, even snowed up Finland.

Sparrowhawk attack at 12:40pm today (to the left of the tree trunk ). Lightning fast and was thought to have caught something out of frame:

I like this one, and think it has potential if it stays up till spring. It's a very attractive, 'natural-looking' scene, as if you'd just stopped to view the place on a walk. So far Jays, Magpies, Wood pigeon, Brambling, Chaffinch, Blue, Great and probable Willow Tits, Nuthatch, Robin, Blackbird.
