    Shieldbugs.

    I spotted these two in my garden this morning within seconds. The second is a Sloe Bug on agapanthus. The first, I think, is a Green Shieldbug nymph which is on a fuschia leaf. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Nerine

    Hello Harry, Thanks for your quick reply! I'll keep my eyes open, I planted a hawthorn hedge a few years ago which is doing well so I guess that's why I have this nice new visitor .... or resident I hope! All the best Nerine

    Hawthorn Shield Bug? I came across this handsome shield bug in the garden this afternoon. Im pretty sure it's a Hawthorn. It's quite a bit bigger than the green shield bugs I often see. I also occasionally see sloe bugs. This one is new in the garden and a real beauty! Nerine

    I've always had plenty of green shieldbugs in the garden but this bug is different. I found it yesterday on sage. Unfortunately it moved just as I was about to take its photo so you can't see the antennae which are striped. In fact it was difficult to photo as it kept scurrying down the sage...

    Lucky you, Sue. I have never seen an elephant hawkmoth caterpillar. Once found a convolvulous hawkmoth on the washing I had left overnight though - that was magnificent. Nerine

    Hi Harry Hi Jen We get these in Guernsey too! They can be seen on Sea Radish. As far as I know there is no common name for them here either. Happy bug hunting! Nerine
