It's New Fall Hedgerow for newly arriving migrants before they orientate to the Old Fall Plantation, (the wood).

If they are record shots, may as well chuck the camera in the lake at Adel Dam and call it a day.

Agreed. Good spot for them round Malham Tarn.

I've only seen Sparrowhawk and Kestrel that general size. Red Kite and Buzzard now regular and obviously too big. Was it a hawk or a falcon - thin or broader wings? No reason why it couldn't be a Hobby and chasing a Swift probably puts Hobby at top of the most likely list. Don't know if Sprawk...

For me they launched before they were ready. They should have sorted all land issues first. That aside it doesn't really make any difference. It was never going to be an Old Moor or Saltholme. It was always going to be open plan and more Fairburn. Even if the visitor centre was open with...

Anyone know where this Siberian Chiffchaff is at Swilly? Where do you park and where's the bird? Thanks.

Denis, dangerous use of the term "commons". The ones in your garden will be Lesser Redpolls - our British redpoll. Common/Mealy redpoll is the more unusual visitor. The potential northern bird that was being discussed is a race of Common. Lesser is a separate species.

I thought the link was going to be to something that suggested they could all be lumped. This is still supporting separation.

It was constantly on view when I was there so in light of suggested criteria should have been noted as showing well. One problem.............it was about ten miles away.

Metcow implied that it was for photographic reasons that I was disappointed with FI records using the term for just about everything that comes through. I said it wasn't anything to do with this, and it isn't. I do find it frustrating that this term is used when the birds clearly aren't...

Re yours and Keith's posts, genuinely I treat "showing well" as an opportunity to take a decent photograph. At the end of the day they are just words, and birds of course move as well from when news is put out. I don't think anything the size of a phalarope could ever be showing well at a...

Estimated distance of 120 yards and looking at your photo, let's agree to disagree on what "showing well" means. It was merely an observation that I've noticed several records from FI where it has said showing well, and the birds are fairly distant, IMO.

Twenty + years ago when I was looking through my Bushnell Discoverer the back of the flash was distant, and it still is.
