Sorry about the quality but the displaying Eider at Penzance was a long way off. The Gulls don't seem to mind the attention.

I know reed flattening is a problem for them and the current (last) roost moved from the main marsh to the pool opposite the old Station house. There used to be a roost in the trees up where the bird hide used to be and in a lot of watching I've not seen them attempt to use it again which is odd...

I've watched them coming in when I've been at St Erth station in the evening - a lot of them are arriving from Penzance direction. Before I'd seen them I wondered why the crash barriers at the roundabout near the garden centre were covered in poo. The Marazion roost first moved to Lescujack...

Strange behaviour from the Eider behind the Tolcarne Inn at Newlyn - it sidled up to a Herring gull and attacked it !

Newlyn Harbour. Rather magnificent Cormorant and a sorry looking Great northern diver. The GND appears to have a damaged leg - one was cut free from debris recently. Two GNDs were present, one was feeding but the 'damaged' one didn't. GNDs need their legs to take off so this one will be around...

Lucky you !! I've spent a lot of time walking down your valley - used to pause around the area of Perranwell viaduct to look at the Jays on the far side of the river bank and also Firecrests - there must be Dippers there but never saw any. There aren't that many places in Cornwall where you can...

Fishermen have been netting Carbis Bay with disastrous results.... Bird deaths prevent netting of fish in St Ives Bay Only to move out of the bay but with the same result. There have been vast numbers of birds in the bay - three dolphins also found the shoal on Christmas day - even the...

Regular Starling roost at Gwavas estate, Newlyn. Not massive but looks very nice viewed from Newlyn pier against the setting sun - starts to build up at about 4pm and settles down at 4:20pm. Today something delayed them till 4:25 but those that stayed settled quickly - some flew over the pier...

The Marazion roosts were great - I remember them in a tree up by the (now removed) hide and in the reeds on the main marsh. They made life hell at work late every afternoon as the pre roost was on the power lines which caused severe arcing and power dips. The best roost I've ever seen was at...

Birds everywhere !! Was at St Ives island looking at 2 Wheatear under the NCI lookout while large numbers of Sandwitch Terns were heading towards Pendeen along with Black Terns (never seen one before) and some Fulmars. Complete lack of fish in the bay this summer has meant most birds are...

The Black swan at Swanpool (Falmouth) has departed taking with it a Mute Cygnet (only 5 of the brood left). The remaining Swans are surviving the ice - strangely they haven't taken to the sea or maybe they can't 'take off' ?

Just put my head out of the window - nice 'n breezy. Forecast gusts of 44MPH NW mid-day tomorrow. Even on Sunday with a moderate westerly blow there were Pomarine & Great Skua, Manx & Balearic Shearwater, countless Auks & Kittiwakes plus Purple sandpiper.
