    A male Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) visited our garden today. I watched it with my Zeiss 10x42 as we were having lunch.

    Another new visitor to my garden - spotted a male European Goldfinch from my kitchen window. Luckily my Zeiss 10x42 were standing right beside me. I spent some time watching it feed on teasel seeds. Quite a nice bird with its vivid red face.

    A playful group of six long-tailed bushtits came foraging in my garden today. I'd seen a single one last year, but no group yet. Great little birds with a very peculiar body shape.

    An exciting morning in my backyard - a bird-of-prey, I think a sparrowhawk, swooped down looking for breakfast (but missed). It sat on a pole looking around for just a minute and then left. Needless to say all the usual passerines on my feeders have scattered far and wide.
