What did you see in your binoculars today?

Back to Valle Vista as the migration unfolds. A nice blustery grayish day over a large reservoir, given its name not so curiously set in a valley between forest on one side and high pasture the other. Lighting wonderful. Smaller song birds, tweeties nowhere to be seen. The expected waterfowl are...

Then noticed yellow bill and figured out i was mixing Phoebes and Black-Eyed Juncos. I dig it when you figure stuff out. Haven't seen the Ridgway in...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Yesterday was a tweener, that is between winter migrations. Las Galinas, just north of SF. No sign of winter waterfowl yet, but still got 19. Mighta had a few more but I can't tell one seagull or swallow from another... Pretty sure I had a Red Shouldered Hawk, but I lost the race to my binos...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

For us yes. Been unseasonably cool till this weekend. Finally got to 70s. More interestingly and not obvious that’s the Pierce Point Tule Elk preserve. Imagine a 4.5 mile trail that is couple hundred feet above Pacific Ocean on one side and Tamales Bay on the other. Wild Elk wandering about...
