Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Male Brambling has recently joined the regular throng though he prefers to feed from fallen seed rather than join the other finches - he does appear to look quizzingly at the feeder and made some clumsy attempts at landing on the feeder. The Siskins have now reached double figures, whilst the...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I've noticed a pattern regarding local Siskins......they just don't appear in my garden on the various feeders during the main winter months. But they do drop in ( as in the last week or so ) to feed , and exhibit courting behaviour including singing before departing to breed. This must be quite...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Siskin have been visiting in the last few days, calling and singing when not on feeders. Up to 6 today and they brought along a friend.......only the 2nd ever in 23 years for the garden, a rather shy Lesser Redpoll but most welcome, albeit for just a few minutes. Brought a grin to a rather dull day.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

First Siskins of the winter period today, on Sunflower hearts.........where have they been till today? A pair in with several Goldies. But found out where the local Chaffinches are hanging out, a large nearby farmers field that had planted red clover and another green ground cover species, left...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Waxwing just 2 miles away. Stocked up on "apples on a stick " and new batteries in the repositioned trail camera. All the Rowan, Crabapple and Cotoneaster berries gone so fingers crossed. All I've attracted is odd looks from the holidaymakers next door, moreso when playing trilling calls...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

That is my slight concern, given that the basis of this brand of feeder is around safely attracting finches to the food. Three species in the vicinity but none to the new feeder, but it's early days yet. Update: The Goldies are in, being watched by the Chaffinches, Greenies nearby somewhere.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

The tits have found and are using the new feeders, but no finches as yet. I'll refrain from refilling one of the older feeders yet with sunflower hearts. Persistent Robin is not perching but rather also jumping and snatching food. Certainly robust units, hopefully some House Sparrows, Goldies...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Trying out some new " luxury " fancy design UK feeders today ; costly but hopefully robust enough for me to not replace them before I depart this present life form. Discovered them from other BF members, the emphasis being on easy cleaning and keeping the contents dry at all times, preventing...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

First bullfinches of the winter visited this morning following a hard frost and fog. Smorgasboard of usual feed plus berry pellets, white millet and peanut nibs freely scattered for the ground feeding species, the Wood mice can have any leftovers if they're lucky. Feeders being emptied rather...
