Hi I am in the High Peak near Buxton Can anybody confirm this is a Red Legged Partridge or another variety. It has no marking on the breast below the black band.

    Loch of the Lowes 2015

If she is the same female from previous years that will be why she feels at home surely. I do not think this female is Lady.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I have taken to following Osprey web sites and neglected this one. I am just starting again now. This has to have been one of the quietest bird feeding periods I have known. I am still feeding the usual food in the same feeders in the same place but very few birds coming to feed.

Hello all Have been watching Osprey migrations so not been on for ages. Birds have been a bit quiet the last few weeks but have noticed my 2 Nuthatches are back, also have seen a Wren which hasn't been around for 18 months or so.

We currently have young Robins, Chaffinch, Blue Tits and Wood pigeon around the garden. There also Blackbirds but not seen them yet. There is and has been for a few weeks a Cuckoo just past the end of our Drive somewhere, it calls every morning and every evening. The Swallows are back in...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Decided to get up early on Sunday Morning and had 2 Reed Buntings come down and feed, there for quite a while as well. Not had any for 4 years unless they come whilst we are at work. Heard a Woodpecker drumming this morning. We have a lot more Goldfinches coming now, still lots of Blue, Coal...

Now I agree about concreting and flagging, not necessary to remove everything to put it in. Check there are no tree preservation orders on them!

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Sorry to say guys but sometimes there is no option to take trees down. Last year we had to have virtually 2 full Ash trees polled right down to 20 feet or so and the trunks are still rotten. We had Mistle Thrushes nesting in one of them and signs of Bats but they had to go or fall on the...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

It has been a bit boring over the last few weeks but this weekend had a good look at a Sparrowhawk then 5 minutes later Common Buzzard landed in one of our trees. They fly a lot over the house and garden but first time one has landed in a tree. Plenty Blackbirds at the moment and we even had a...

Sorry don't get too much time to post at the moemnt but Happy New Year to everyone. We have had only the usual visitors, Coal, Great and Blue Tits, Chaffinches a few Gold and Greenfinches. No great increase in numbers though. The Nuthatch is still a regular as are Dunnocks, House Sparrows and...

I have seen very little of the birds in my garden these last few weeks but just caught a Siskin on the Nyjer seed for the first time at this house and the Long Tail Tits made a welcome return.

Some great pics on recently and good reports for some people. Sadly I have nothing to declare. Feeders are getting topped up but I am seeing nothing of the birds. I also live in a very rural area so birds are a bit scarcer than usual at the minute. Welcome Old Fogey.

Hi Crazyfingers, could not get the link but did a web search. I found clips for December 2008 in various areas as well, so maybe it is cyclical.

We don't get to see many of the birds until weekend but one great event this weekend. Came home after work Saturday lunchtime and soaring right above our house and garden 3 Common Buzzards what a fabulous sight, they were quite low down then soared away. We have also had a Sparrowhawk visiting...

We have a shortage of birds but on 3 mornings this week we have had a Sparrowhawk hunting for it's breakfast. Sat on the fence down the garden for more than 5 minutes this morning. We watched through binoculars and even managed a distant photo before it took off. A great start to the day.

Even though I have not been posting I still catch up when I can. Just had an operation on my knee and I thought while i was at home recovering I would get some great viewings of the birds coming and going. It must have been the quietest week ever. Did not have to top the feeders up at all...

We have some very fluffy Dunnocks just appeared from a bonfire we are preparing so this must be quite a late brood. The Blackbirds are down to 1 pair but everything else seems to be there, Robins and maturing youngsters, still plenty finches and tits, not Bullfinches or LTT's though. Chiff...

The House Martins and Swallows do not nest in our garden but they come in a lot because we have a pond so lots of insects around. For the first time since before the snow last year we had a Wren in the bushes, so pleased to see that little bird. We also had a Chiff Chaff and in the field next...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I have to say I don't get many pigeons but I do get huge flocks of Jackdaws and Crows or Ravens, big black horrors. They demolish the food like no tomorrow. Had a visit from the Green Woodpecker again today. Not on the food just on the fence, but I did see it clearer because I was just...
