    Moth, S Yorks, 13th Sep

Hello. This was taken in S Yorks today. Is it a faded Straw Dot or something else? Size looked ok for that sp. Sorry about the quality (I had to use my phone). Thanks, Dave

2cy large gull, S Yorks, April

Just looking for opinions on this gull which was at a local res a week or so ago. This was all I saw of it, as it flew off unseen soon after I arrived. Thanks. Dave

    Thekla/Crested Lark, Souss estuary, Morocco

Pics and song from a video taken in April a few years ago. At the time I wasn't convinced either way, but now see that the first primary appears to be at least as long as the PCs. I'd be grateful for any opinions. Dave

    Sony ZV-1 vlogging camera

The new 1" sensor 24-70mm efl Sony ZV-1 looks quite promising for digiscoping, especially for grabbing stills from 4K video. It's got a 3.5mm mic socket as well. Just a shame there's no viewfinder. Dave

    Large gull, W Yorks, 27/02/20

This gull, seen today in W Yorkshire, had me considering the possibility that it might be a 3cy michahellis. Reasons included the combination of clean grey mantle, scaps, and some of the median coverts, and maybe the advanced bill colouration. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Cheers, Dave

White Wagtails(?) in autumn, W Yorks

I still struggle to confidently ID White Wagtails in autumn, and would be interested in any opinions on these two, taken in W Yorks on 6th and 12th September respectively. Is there anything about them to suggest they might be Pied rather than White? Thanks, David

Herring Gull with unusual primary pattern, W Yorks

Adult Herring Gull with an interesting combination of primary patterning, although with the large mirror on P9 and the unbroken white tip to P10 it's presumably just an odd-looking argentatus(?). David

    crossblll, Yorks

I'd be interested in any opinions on this crossbill, taken in Yorkshire last month. Is the bill within the range of Common? Cheers, David

    Larva, W Yorks, 28/08

Can anyone help with the ID of this caterpillar please (taken this morning in West Yorks). I'm not sure of the food plant because I found it on my clothes. It was around an inch and a half when fully extended. Thanks, David

graellsii or michahellis, W Yorks, 17/07

This bird dropped into a local reservoir yesterday, 17th July. At the time I had it down as a pale-looking graellsii, but it's got me wondering now. Flight views were brief and against the light, so were of no use. Can anyone help please? David

    Spider ID, W Yorks.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with this spider please? It was taken last June on the moorland fringe. David

Tree Sparrow calls? W Yorks moors, Sep

For the sake of my patch list, is it safe to say that this a Tree Sparrow? I wasn't by my recorder at the time, so neither saw nor heard the bird in real life. Alternatively, any ideas about what else it could be? Cheers, David

Migrating Dotterels?, W Yorks moor, 29/09

Last Saturday I was setting up at one of my vis mig watchpoints when two waders flew W, low over my head. My instant first thought was Dotterel, based on jizz (smallish plover) and the purring element to the call. I only managed to get my camera on them as they were heading away, but luckily I'd...

Another call, W Yorks moor, 24/09

This call was recorded on my W Yorks moorland fringe patch on 24th Sep. I think it was something passing through because my recorder only picked up this call-type this once. Unfortunately I'd wandered off looking at something else and so neither saw nor heard the bird at the time. I've attached...

Passerine call, W Yorks moors, mid-Sept

This call, only heard this once, stood out from those of Meadow Pipits migrating over my W Yorks moorland fringe patch. I realise you can't do much with a single call on its own, especially when it's faint like this, but would welcome any suggestions. Cheers, David PS. The sonogram looks a...
