Masked Flowerpiercer!
They are a lovely bird. Having birded in both Cheshire and Colombia I can tell you with certainty which of those two you will hear a Masked Flowerpiercer in, and it ain't Cheshire! -

An interesting thread, as a result I've just deleted Scottish CB off my life list :( Was in Abernethy volunteering with RSPB early 90s and wardens called Scottish but from memory it was on chunkier than normal bill rather than call (birds in a tree , not in hand so in hindsight was perhaps...- mjh73

Ok, agree that would be fine to the lodge. I'm fairly robust but not sure I'd be excited about taking one up to the ridge, though I'm sure they'd have a go! -

....and yes you probability of seeing certain targets certainly reduced (to nil for some probably!) if you don't go up to the ridge. You will still see cool birds though :) -

When we were there someone was running up to the ridge! (Not a birder!) 600m at that elevation is tough going but fine if you are fit. No shop at ProAves but plenty of shops in Minca, just need to plan before you go up. We came back down for lunch, but I'm sure if you asked in advance ProAves... -

Maybe moto taxi means something else, but if you mean those wee tuc-tuc (or even a regular car) those things will not in my experience get you beyond El Dorado. We were there October '23 with a driver with a Toyota Landcruiser. There was a serious landslide over the road and we had to jump out... -

Best birding trips in Central/South America?
I think in a week you can cover a smallish area well (say Minca / Santa Marta) or a larger area (say coast /Santa Marta / Perija) a bit more frantically. We did the latter in October last year: Arrive evening Barranquilla Day 1 Palermo-coastal stops Stay Minca Day 2 Minca Stay El Dorado next 2...- mjh73

Pretty much bang on for nominate subspecies of Western Yellow Robin. Morcombe app (if you have it) has it listed as 'piping whistle' call variant. Couple of recordings in ebird also a good match.- mjh73
