Comment by 'Guest' in media 'swallow'

thanks for positive comments, I gave up any hope of getting a decent swallow shot a long time ago, This opportunity presented itself whilst phographing the horses at Salisbury race course so couldn't resist an attempt. There were upwards of 30 swallows feeding on the track between the races...

    bird id berkshire england

Thanks for all the replies. http://www.pbase.com/kingsacre/image/114673834 I noticed the adult male has been ringed. Not noticed any other rings on my numerous visits. The place where I took the photo was once the infamous USAF base where they stored the cruise missiles. You have probably...

    bird id berkshire england

http://www.pbase.com/update_image/114673832 I am a complete novice but have just started to take bird photos. I've pretty much done the garden birds to death and am now venturing out in an attempt to get less common captures. My only prob is I have very limited experience in id-ing the birds I'm...

new to bird photography need help

Not sure whether I should have started a new thread for this message as it is slightly off the topic being spoken about but I guess in time I will get a better feel for how this group works. In any case it is still relevent to the original thread title of needing help. I walk my dogs at the same...

new to bird photography need help

Not sure whether Marcus is asking about filters because he suggests to use them or not but Roy your advice is quite clear. I have not long ago removed all filters from all my lenses as it was suggested to me that " You pay all that money for good lenses and then go and add a bit more...

new to bird photography need help

Hi Randall Welcome your English is good so don't worry. Forgive me but I love the way you spelled "Bit, beat " It made me read your post with a Spannish accent. I have thought about using some sort of reflector but had thought it would spook the birds too much but after trying a couple of shots...

new to bird photography need help

Thomas First of all Thank you for taking the trouble to go to the length of your response. It was very helpful. I had heard of the potential dust problem but wasn't aware that there was an inconsistantcy between individual lenses issue. Thanks for your crop examples I have never been happy with...

new to bird photography need help

Thanks Roy Good tips. I have played a bit more with noise reduction and am already getting better results. I guess I have to have the confidence to raise ISO as neccessary rather than complaining about the all to often bad light and then work a bit harder in post.

new to bird photography need help

Hi Thomas Thanks for the comments and encouragement. I have been considering the 100-400L IS for some time. I guess you can only tell me of your experiences of that lens and not give me a comparison but I would like to know what you think of it. I am prepared to live without the extra reach of...

new to bird photography need help

Frank I'm sure I will be tempted to upgrade my version of light room as soon as funds and my wife allow. Have just spent over 2 grand on computer and camera upgrades. My version does have the tweaking sliders you mention. I tend to use them on images that need serious recovery but I guess all...

new to bird photography need help

Hi Frank thanks for looking and commenting. I shoot in raw and use lightroom 1.1 and elements 7 I have been photographing for just under a year and post processing for a few months, so I guess I am still a novice. Getting acceptable contrast is somewhat hit and miss for me so far. I was advised...

Hi I am new to this forum this is my first post. My apologies if I have not posted in the right area for my question but I am not used to such a large forum. Hi from Berkshire England

Hi all I am in no way an expert birder but am keen on all wildlife. I am now a year into my new found passion of photography. I am keen on all types but have more recently found myself concentrating on trying to capture wildlife and birds in particular. I have joined this list to hopefully...
