Kinda off the beaten path, but the Zens are the Sennheiser px100's of the optical world. When I was coveting a pair of bose headphones, I did some research and discovered a $50 dollar pair of sennheiser px100's that sound better then bose on ear headphones, when I heard the sound that come from...

Well, I finally went to Cabelas in scarborough maine and "Steve" (My assigned optics dude) checked out the Zen ED's and was very excited because he had read about them online in the forums and went to their website. We compared them to Swaro 8x42 El's and some Zeiss Conquest 8x40's. We'll he...

I will let you know, the funny thing is the last time I went to cabelas, I knew more about optics then the optics guy behind the counter. LoL, but I will have the optics guy look thru them and hold them against the swars, zeiss and leicas.

so few high end bins seem to be sold

I find that their are less people into astronomy then birding, so the demand for astro bins may be less. I bought a pair of fujinon 16x70 fmt-sx used for about $300 on ebay and they rock, and I also bought a pair of nikon 12x50se's after reading a rave review from bostons weatherman/astronomer...

If anyone is interested with parting with their Zens,Pros or hawkes for a week or two, then they should call Diane at birdwatching.com and send her a pair to review, Her and her husband are really into optics, they sell alot of them and seem like very genuine honest people, and I bet she and her...

Are Zen Rays 8x43 ED's really that good?

If the market of alpha bins is indeed changing, then that change is good, Maybe it will force the ungodly inflated rates of the alphas to lower their cost to compete with a new market of quality instruments rising to a level of new excellence. Amen to that
