Strangest place to find a nest!

Yesterday myself and a friend visited a small garden which is open to the public but is quiet at the moment. It is a formal garden with gravel paths. As we approached the central feature where all 4 paths met, 3 common gulls started making a lot of noise and started swooping down at us. A few...

Nausea-getting used to using a scope

My husband recently bought me a scope to make I.D of birds easier. However I used them for the first time the other day on the side of a loch. I had them on a tripod , and was concentrating on a couple of little grebes that kept diving, soon I began to feel really sick. Is this usual? Can anyone...

    Woodcock behaviour question

We live down a farm track through a wood. This evening there was a woodcock dabbling in a puddle in front of the car in the head lights. It was reluctant to move and was wiggling it's tail from side to side. Is this because it was afraid or was it being threatening towards us?

    Hello from Scotland

I live near Elgin in Moray. I have always enjoyed feeding the birds in my garden and could spend hours watching their activities if I had the time. We have mostly garden/woodland birds but as we live near the coast I have become interested in the birds I see at the coast/estuaries. I was also...
