Snakes on the sidewalk, Bonking Turtles and a few sps on Paphos Headland April 13-20th 2024

Last visited April ‘22, always a privilege and more…to go back. With great glee we left this rain sodden island for the heat and light of this paradise isle, albeit somewhat sobered by the ongoing horrors on their doorstep. Even with the passage of time, the destination still provides...

    Interesting Spider?

Just found on my parasol NELondon, 10mm body length….without legs. Cheers

    Coming “full circle”.

During the late ‘60’s at weekend during the Summer months, I’d drive down to the New Forest or the South West Surrey heathlands in pursuit of the near mythical Hobby! It was certainly an all day affair, coming from NEast London and returning back through London central (no M25 in those days)...

Thought this might be of general interest?

On holiday last week in Cyprus, I bumped into a very keen garden lister, being of the same ilk, we exchanged lists. Both having been living at our respective abodes for 40 and 41 years respectively, of course all the “top drawer birds” were exchanged on both sides much to our mutual glee. I’ve...

    Turtle sp…Paphos last week.

Found what looked like a pair of mating turtles inshore off the headland, the default would be Loggerhead, failing that, Green Turtle, however looking on line at the head pattern, it appears to look more like Hawksbill. Although they’re not supposed to occur in the Eastern Med? Cheers

Odd Wheatear on Paphos last week?

Came across this bird at the Architectural Ruin on the headland, it did look odd…ie being particularly dark, more so than ye’r average female/imm type Eastern Black-eared Wheatear. As far as the images are concerned, it was unfortunate that I was always following it into the sun. That said...

Hooded Crows dive bombing drones persistently!

Witnessed the above whilst sitting at Cafe Nerros in Paphos (old town) during last week. There were three birds involved, seemingly taking turns to dive bomb a single drone that was possibly being flown “for the purpose of”. Has anyone else witnessed this behaviour elsewhere? Cheers

    Female Kestrel, Paphos headland yesterday.

A parting shot afore leaving for the airport yesterday afternoon, made me wonder when reviewing the shots? Cheers

Brittany earlier in the week, presume a “flatfish” bottom feeder?

My grandson took the shot whilst on a camping holiday at the coast. Cheers

    April Moths

Six of six last night to include two lifers! Common Quaker, Hebrew Character, pug sp (wet and bedraggled), Common Quaker, Small Quaker, drum roll…Pale Pinion and Frosted Green! Was particularly pleased as one it rained and two, I’d just fitted a new different UV bulb and was keen to see the...

A new morph for the garden yesterday…..NEast London.

1st image is my standard RNParakeet, however images 2 and 3 show a very different morph, I should be able to keep track of this one. 🤩

    Cats eyes….in the road!

“A double take” was prompted!….when this cat rolled over in front of me, as I crossed the road. I’ve seen blue/green eyed cats, but never this colour before.😮 Enjoy.

    Little and Large NEast London.

Thought it might be worth looking at the size differential between RNParakeet and Alexandrine Parakeet, in case, like me wasn’t aware until yesterday, when they arrived to take advantage of my Apple fest! Enjoy

North East London yesterday an Accip. flyby?

Noted two Buzzards yesterday soaring high in non-concentric circles (opposing), looked at the right hand bird it was a slightly tatty individual. I then looked at the second bird, as I was hoping to see a pale morph variant that I’d seen same place on Saturday last,(1st image). However looking...

    March Moths

Against my better judgement (with a clear night ahead) and finding a Dotted Border beneath my security halogen, I ran my UV, only added two more Pale Mottled Willow and Common Quaker, but better than nowt, on a very unpromising evening-

Another one from last night NELondon?

I can only see Yellow-line Quaker as being a candidate for this, but with a flight period of Sep-Nov. it would be somewhat adrift in Feb! Clearly I’m missing the obvious?😮

    Need help on this…NEast London.

Found on the wall beneath my security halogen last night? Cheers

    Dipping Waxwings…..

Having dipped local Waxwings this Winter c6 times, we decided yesterday to go back to Bushy Park where we had (very briefly), 7 birds on Feb.1st. Certainly not local, c21 miles due SW of our abode across the metropolis, using public transport Bus/Tube and Train, a cancellation of the latter...
