Rare and Scarce Birds in Staffordshire

Steve Williams Thanks, Steve. Glad the old dog is still at it. There would usually be a train line near the Rosefinch site but maybe not ? That's why he likes Doxey.

Rare and Scarce Birds in Warwickshire

Gwe I gather it has been in the area since early December but is generally on the lake within Ragley Hall. Unfortunately no access in Winter to this property. You never know your luck though and there are several footpaths along the River. They do like rivers with their longer legs.

Greenland/Icelandic Wheatears Ignored by Birdguides for some reason, fall of 150 large wheatears at Spurn on 3/10 were almost all seen as Greenland/Icelandic on size alone. It is likely that these were your birds filtering through. This is interesting given the almost total lack of other fall...

Where is Bollihope I frequently see questions like this on Forums. Usually at the top of most computer screens there is a little box that you can fill in and something called a search takes place. It might be marked with the word "google" or similar. I just put the word Bollihope into mine and...

The large Linnet flock Always interests me how estimates and counts vary. Records of the Linnets have varied on the various blogs and birdlines etc. I have seen estimates from ca. 250 to about 700. http://www.bobduckhouses.blogspot.com/ I have counted the individual birds on Bob's photo...

Salford Priors Whoever released the news is very inconsiderate of the wishes of the few birders who have access as arranged legitimately with the Site Manager. After todays episodes with some birders actually arguing with the Site Manager I don't hold out much hope for the future. Your...

Pec Gate Well done John. Thats what it' s all about. A well crafted reply to the first few pathetic responses. How about a new forum for birders where we can exchange news. Of course it will be password protected. I'm suprised there aren't more responses. They must all like 'Strictly'.

Birders v Photographers.....Part 17. Well said Gareth. They shouldn't have been there and that is all there is to it. They will keep on making excuses but that just sums up the totally selfish attitude of many these days. You are also right about the rights of the fishermen. They pay an...

Chalkhill Blue? I maybe wrong but it looks like a female Chalkhill Blue, Max! Hello Max The photo shows a Common Blue, albeit a rather tatty one. The Chalkhill Blue became extinct in Warks in the 19th century and it would show chequered wing fringes if it were one.

As for the wood at the north end of the Thornham with the massive house, darn! I thought I was the only person watching that area. At least it is just 3 of us. Nobody is looking are they ;) Make that four of us!!!! I love that place. I had a Red-backed Shrike there a long time ago. There...

Twite Hi Penny I have seen ca. 30 Twite the last two visits to Brancaster. I know that there have been few reports this Winter and Linnets have often been present instead. They are usually at the end of the Golf Course on the edge of the harbour or at that end of the beach on the high tide...

One legged Firecrest Looks like the Firecrest is on the way out from these photos. The right leg is not being used and the bird is very "fluffed up". If you haven t seen it I reckon you had better hurry.

If its of any help i only had five hours out birding yesterday and i wasted four at this site. The bird obviously roams over a wide area and much of it cant be viewed. no chance of any shots. I needed some luck and didn't get it (again).

Bto Atlas Thank you Matt It would be great if you could post the maps for me. Surely someone might then help out with Draycote Water at least. I'm sure that you could help out with your level of ID skills. It's unlikely that you will fing anything too tricky and any coverage is better than...
