    2016 UK Orchids

Hey matey, long time no speak Looks like I misremembered, Bolton not Wigan. Still look more like E. dunensis from the pic, but as we know images can be deceiving. Looks like I may be heading west this weekend. Exciting :-O Hope you are well

    Plant ID St Petersburg, Russia.

I agree, it is certainly a member of the M. nemorosum group. Which one is another matter If Carlsburg made Cow-wheats.....

    2016 UK Orchids

Have you a link to the pics please? Not questioning the ID, I just have a rather unhealthy obsession with Epipactis in general and dunensis particularly There are undoubtedly many. I have redetermined several such in recent years. Most had originally been identified as E. helleborine, however...

    Orchid for ID, Flamborough

I agree completely, that is precisely what it is Mark

plants for ID from the French Alps

Agree third looks like Trumpet As for the Broomrape forget it. Way too far gone and the host species can (a) be some distance away and (b) a plant/genus which may be host to several different Orobanche spp Cheers Mark

    2014 UK Orchids

Clearly E. dunensis. This taxon appears to be extending it's range of late with new sites being discovered all the time and not only in the west of the country where it certainly seems to be on the move. Often confused with E. hellebore it really is not a difficult species Up until last...

    2014 UK Orchids

These are E. dunensis. Do you have more pics and site details? Mark

    2014 UK Orchids

Agree with Rich. Both are clearly hybrids. Still nice though I was at Tarn Sike a couple of years ago. There are some weird and wonderful hybrid flavours there. A fascinating place for more than Orchids also M

    2013 UK orchids

Again final pic surely E. dunensis * Mark * As I've said before I would not be at all surprised if many (most/all?) of the inland E. dunensis with pink bases to the pedicels ( cf the coastal var) are introgressed with E. helleborine as in the Scottish bing sites. Unfortunately only var...

    2013 UK orchids

How can the same species hybridise with itself; isn't that an oxymoron? ;);) Mark

    Orchid ID, Isle of Mull

    D. maculata is certainly involved here in this obvious hybrid. Whilst not necessarily disagreeing with Chris it may not be an F1 hybrid. Promiscuous buggers these Dactyls :eek!: Mark

    2013 UK orchids

I believe the error in the Harrap guide is to blame (1st edition at least). Way too early anyway E. phyllanthes at Whisby are generally easy - there are usually a few nice caged ones by the track . Haven't heard anything from there this year; yet Mark

    2013 UK orchids

I see hundreds of D purpurella annually, I don't see any obvious ones here. They all look like hybrids Mark

    2013 UK orchids

Man Orchid is normally very easy at Barnack. From memory (always dangerous) the best ones were around the centre of the reserve when I was last there . Although I haven't been for a few years, I have never failed to find them Mark

    Alchemilla specimen request

I'm hoping there may be some amongst the rampant Orchidophiles amongst you who may be interested in more enlightening taxa ;) In connection with ongoing work towards the production of a Alchemilla handbook I am seeking pressed specimens of Alchemilla glabra from across the UK. Either complete...

    2012 UK Orchid season updates

Rich emailed me privately about this plant, however I've only just had chance to have a good look at the images Rich's original idengification is I feel correct. The ovaries are elongated as is often the case with this flavour of phyllanthes, nicely ribbed and are surely glabrous ( E...

    2012 UK Orchid season updates

75 spikes A morio up at my local North Lincs site today. 3 days earlier than the previous earliest date ( last year) and a remarkable total for so early. Over the last 6 years the earliest date at this site has advanced by 19 days
