    Glanville Fritillary RFI

I'll be having a couple of days in Ventnor IOW next week. Does anyone have any up to date info that'll give me the best chance of catching up with Glanville Fritillary? Ideally as close to Ventnor as possible as, although I'll have a car, I'd rather have a couple of days of no driving at all if...

Side, Turkey 6-13th April. A "Non-Birding" Trip Report

Non-birding in as much as the trip was specifically for the other half as payment for a birding trip I've got planned later this year. Of course, this didn't preclude early morning sessions and having the bins slung round the neck the rest of the time. Hopefully this report will be of use to...

    Orchids, Side, Turkey RFI

Will be spending a week in Side, Turkey from 6th April and was wondering if there are any good sites close by for orchids. Probably won't be hiring a car but a good bike ride is on the cards. Any advice appreciated. Thanks Phil

No response so far in the Spain Forum so I'll have a go here. In the early stages of planning a trip to the Picos de Europa in June and wondered if anyone has any sites for Violet Limodore. Grateful for any help. Phil

    Glaring Omissions.

Sure this has been done before but here goes. My British List currently stands at 415-ish and it does contain a few rather embarrassing gaps, the most shameful being Purple Heron, followed closely by Quail. Anyone else care to admit their failings. Phil

    Bugs Britannica

If anyone's interested, The Works are selling Bugs Britannica by Peter Marren and Richard Mabey for £6.99. A coffee-table book but very well written and definitely worth it at that price. Phil

    Gambia in July?

Found what looks a half-decent holiday deal on the web for the 3rd week in July. Knowing bugger all about Gambia I popped into the local Thompson's to pick up a brochure only to be told they didn't have any as it was only a winter destination. Anyone have any thoughts on why this is? Phil

    Any sign of Lady Eleanor?

Looking to head down to the Isle of Wight this week if the weather's fine but I've not seen any reports of Glanvilles as yet. If anyone's got info or a good source of info I'd be most grateful. Phil

    Fen Raft Spider RFI

Been thinking of popping up to Redgrave and Lopham Fen for the Raft Spiders. Do they occur in areas open to the public or would it be a wasted trip? Any advice appreciated. Phil

    Dslr and Android Phone.

This may be a stupid question but is there a way of connecting a Dslr to an Android phone (in this case, a Pentax K-5 and a HTC Desire HD)? Mainly just for uploading pics to the web but also the possibility of using as a remote viewfinder. Phil

    Bee ID

Got a nest of these in the garden, I'm leaning towards B. hypnorum but know next to diddly about bee's so confirmation or correction would be greatly appreciated. Phil

    Kestrel-Unusual prey item?

Had a male Kestrel present to the female in a nest-box, a female Great-crested Newt. The female was less than impressed though and didnt accept it. The male then carried it off to a neighbouring tree where I lost sight of it, so don't know if the newt was eaten or not. Has anyone else seen...

Bit of a disagreement on these two. I say Small, a friend says Southern. Phil

    Be gentle with me.

Inspired by some of the truly gob-smacking work in this forum, I decided to pick up a pencil and give it a go myself. Here are my first efforts although I'm not sure whether they're finshed or not, a bit of background probably wouldn't go amiss. Phil

    How many.....haven't you seen?

Aimed mainly at the top British (and Ireland if you insist) listers. What's on the British list that you still need? Any of the top boys (or girls) got any tarts ticks outstanding? Basically, what I really want to know is have I seen something you haven't so I can have a fleeting moment of...

    Fuerteventura 12-19th April 2011

Fuerteventura 12-19th April 2011 (A non-Birding Trip Report) This is a short summary of a strictly non-birding holiday to Corralejo, Fuerteventura. Non-birding because the holiday was payback to my family in order to compensate for me going off to the Pyrenees this coming June. Obviously...

    Corralejo Fuerteventura RFI

I'm taking my wife and son to Corralejo for a week in April on a 'strictly non-birding' holiday as payback for me booking a week in the Pyrenees on my own in June. Obviously, my definition of 'strictly non-birding' differs somewhat from my wifes but I don't want to take the pee. What I'd like to...

    Pyrenees May/June RFI

Just started putting a trip together for next year and looking for a bit of info. Main target is (obviously) Wallcreeper but would love to also get Trumpet Gentian and as wide a range of birds, plants and insects as possible. Looking at past trip reports May/June doesn't appear to be the best...

    Seperating Common and Scarce Emeralds

Anyone got any useful tips for seperating Common and Scarce Emeralds in the field? I've been looking at a site where both are said to occur but have only identified Common for certain. How noticeable is the extent of blue on S2 and what about size of pterostigma (I can't even tell the difference...

Has anyone got any up to date info on the numbers of Wood Whites at Salcey Forest. Thinking of a trip next week if we're not too late. Also, what are the chances of Black Hairstreak here compared to Glapthorn or Brampton. Cheers Phil
