Help with interpreting Opticron tech data, please?

Can't vouch for the accuracy of this, but the Opticron naming might be decodable after all! https://www.birdforum.net/threads/opticron-ed-hd-vhd-glass-and-coatings-very-confused.446191/post-4533687

Help with interpreting Opticron tech data, please?

Oasis is a name they use for anti- reflective glass coatings. I do not believe they are dielectric coatings, needed for reflections in SP prisms ( not like porro or AK with total internal reflection). I have the Verano....it is the next level above the Traveller, so I would expect it to have...

Help with interpreting Opticron tech data, please?

Instead of trying to go through this .... This site gives lots of good descriptions and diagrams for various different bins....here are Travellers : https://www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Opticron-Traveller-BGAED-10x32-Binoculars-Review-203.htm Oasis are Opticrons name for coatings.

    Recommendations for mid-level (US$400-600) 8x42s?

E2s are reported to be very good mid level bins, they are on my list for a few years ..... However, today they cost £700 ( latest better coatings), a massive increase from when they were classed as good value.

    New binoculars under 200€

They have good multi coatings, phase coated and have dielectric reflective coating on their prisms. This has enabled them to outperform aluminium or sliver reflective coatings on other entry level bins. They are noticeably brighter than some of the other bins ( from memory..... I'm actually...

    New binoculars under 200€

Please note that my list contains bins from ~£100 to ~£400..... So in general terms the sv202 does not better all of these IMHO. Regarding weight.... Sorry I have not checked actual numbers. Because the P7 is entry level and reported as predominantly plastic (comparable to the Nature DX, Sierra...

    New binoculars under 200€

The sv202s are magnesium alloy and are heavy and robust. If weight matters, then a light weight plastic bin like the yf II porro or P7 would then be better in the OP list. Edit... The Opticron Savanna Porro is identical to the yf II and they are good entry level porros, if that is desirable.

    New binoculars under 200€

The bins I have compared against the sv202s are.... Celestron Nature DX, Celestron Trailseeker, Barr and Stroud Sierra, Barr and Stroud Savannah, Barr and Stroud Series 5, Vanguard Spirit XF, Opticron Savanna, Opticron SR.GA, Opticron Verano, Celestron Ultima, Celestron Regal, Helios...

    New binoculars under 200€

This will be a repeat of the same debate. You won't get a balanced answer. I suggest you look at what jarrelli has written..... He is reliable, has used many bins and has an open and balanced outlook, with no axe to grind...

    Aliexpress monocular

Yes, this is what I posted a few weeks ago too. I too thought it was okay for the price. Also, it small and light, perfect for the purpose I bought it for .... Lightweight hiking in the mountains.

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Agreed, I see many posts commenting on, recommending or more often rubbishing particularly optics without ever handling them. It does not take long to identify the reliable reviewers and commenters. Jackjack keep up the reviews...... You are bringing a fresh perspective to the table, without...

    Perhaps another game changer

My understanding, which might be wrong, is that they deliver the APM porros too, so your assertion is possibly correct. They do astro kit too eg superzoom (sold under an APM label too).

Looking to decide on a new binocular

@RepresoR Understood. For info GPO are not 'new' ...... Started in 2015 by Richard Schmidt who was the Head of Development CEO for Zeiss ..... On the Terra, Conquest and SF models! As far as I can determine from my research so far, the GPO HDs are closer to the SFs .... and thus the next level...

Looking to decide on a new binocular

Here are some professional birders who make some comments about Conquest's..... Maybe something to consider, before you buy. https://www.birdforum.net/threads/first-impresion-of-the-operation-of-gpo-10x42-hd.368862/

    Perhaps another game changer

Perhaps a better description of these could be " a roof bin to rival NLs' :...... That way, the emotive debate about 'copying' someone else's "design " is removed completely. An SP roof bin is an SP roof bin ......

There is a lot of meaning in the small word " perhaps".... That's why open minded people will watch that space......

    Perhaps another game changer

First reports coming in of an 'NL' clone ..... https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/908681-new-bino-developed-by-skyrover/ Looks like Sky Rover have produced a new range of roofs, to go with their extensive range of excellent astro gear and bins. Definitely one to watch.

Zeiss and Swarovski 10x32 flat field question

When I was considering and researching the SF, I found that the across field resolution test results showed that it was not sharp (flat) right to the edge as one would have hoped for in a premier level bin with field flatteners...

Brief reviews about Zeiss victory SFL 8/10 x40

Is the SF 8x42 edge performance notably better than the SF10x42? According to the resolution measurements across the field of the 10x42, these didn't look particularly good: https://www.birdforum.net/threads/encounters-with-zeiss-8x42-ht-and-sf.313034/post-3300908

Looking to decide on a new binocular

IMO I would choose the GPO HDs. Read the reviews yourself, the well grounded reviewers are suggesting they are playing in the top class league, not big brand name mid range, despite the price equivalence to the others ....I am considering these myself as I am happy with my GPO Passion 8x56.

Copyright of optical system? Why no replicas of high grade binos?

Copyright of optical system? Why no replicas of high grade binos?

Cheap Chinese Conquest HD Vs a Japanese Opticron Aurora or GPO HD.... What has the Better glass, better coatings, better materials, tighter tolerances and so on ......?
