I've got a Canon R7 and need to update my lenses

I did the same thing a month ago and have been impressed with the R7 + 100-500mm so far. I'm also considering a msmaller lens though for photographing birds in woodland but am not sure whether to get the rf 24-105 or the refs 18-150. Has anyone any experience with these lenses?

I've got a Canon R7 and need to update my lenses

First of all thanks to everyone for your feedback on this. I finally made the decision to get the RF 100-500L, as it meant I did't need to use an adaptor with my camera, although I've no doubt the 100-400EF Mk11 would have also produced superb results. My main original concern was the smaller...

I've got a Canon R7 and need to update my lenses

I think the 100-500 is approx 120g heavier than the 100-400usm a but is lighter than the more recent mk11. Either way, it seems a fair trade off for the additional range it provides.

I've got a Canon R7 and need to update my lenses

Fair points. As I've said, I've currently been using my old 100-400 mk1, which performs pretty well and my main concern is that currently my lens min ap is 5.6 whereas the 100-500 is 7.1 and I'm slightly concerned with the loss of light. This is particularly the case when using autofocus to...

I've got a Canon R7 and need to update my lenses

Thanks so much for your feedback so far. Whilst I'm sure the extra reach on the 200-800 is really helpful, I'd be concerned about the extra weight and size when travelling as I would not be using a tripod. I'm very fond of my old 100-400 mk1 but it's definitely time to upgrade and I suspect it...

I've got a Canon R7 and need to update my lenses

I've got a Canon R7 and need to upgrade my old lenses (Canon EF 100-400mk1 and tamron 18-240). I'm off to the Brazilian Pantanal later this year and am not sure whether to get an EF 100-400 mk11, which has a minimum aperture of f5.6 or the rf 100-500 which reduces to f7.1. I also need a standard...

    Brown capped duck uk

I am in S.Devon and yesterday came across a medium size duck that has orange legs, a yellow bill, greyish body with a two tone brown head. Its distinctive marking is that it has a dark brown cap that runs from the top of the bill, through the eye line and then halfway down the neck where it it...

    Devon Birding

I was lucky enought to see the Red Footed Falcon on Exminster marshes this afternoon. It was sat on top of a bush, equidistant between the RSPB car park and the viewing platform. It's head was the colour of clotted cream with a dark eye patch, its chest was a lighter cream and it had dark grey...

    Whitethroat?

Many thanks - I thought it was but I just did not expect to find it where I did.

    Whitethroat?

Can anyone help identify this bird? It was in the hedgerow and I'm assuming its either a whitethroat or lesser whitethroat but I have recorded the birds in this area for years and it will be the first time one will have visited the area of Devon for at least 6 years. It appeared to be taking...

    Devon Birding

Haven't yet seen any Fieldfare at Staverton yet but over the last few weeks there has been an increasing number of Mandarin Ducks on the Dart below Staverton Bridge at dawn. It started with the odd female but this week I've seen 14 on the river bank or sat on one of the fallen trees in the...

    Devon Birding

Was walking by the R.Dart on my local patch whilst walking my dog this morning when I heard agitated calling. Looking into the tree overhanging the river approx 10 feet away was a young kingfisher sat on a branch. One of its parents then landed next to it holding a fish in its bill and made the...

    Devon Birding

Well I had no luck with the Lesser Whites last night. Just the usual stonechats, with at least one fledgling, jays, willow warblers, tree pipit, linnets and yellowhammers. Haven't found a Whinchat here yet this year.

    Devon Birding

Red legged Partridge on Haldon today but so far I haven't come across any Turtle Doves, although the strong wind didn't help today. Think I might try looking for some lesser whitethroats around Chudliegh Knighton tomorrow if the weather holds. There was a Garden Warbler there last week.

My first Goosander ducklings of the year this morning. 10 of them on the Dart. Two Common Sandpipers also on the river - they generally appear at this time of the year and stay but stay for only one or two days at the most.

The steam railway runs from Buckfastliegh, through Staverton to Totnes and this morning there was a large group of Railway enthusiasts filming and taking photos of them in the area you describe and down at Staverton railway station. I see them there most bank holidays, standing around hoping to...

The Osprey was still there today on the boat mast. It seems in no hurry to move on.

    Visiting Dartmouth next week ..

On ther way down you might stop off at Bowling Green Marsh in Topsham as an Osprey has been seen there recently and as you're going past Staverton it is worth checking the Dart by the railway staion for Goosanders. 3 pairs are in the area at the moment. Early morning would give you a fair chance...

Thanks Darrel, You're probably right - I just had never seen so many together in thi part of the world before.

Posible flock of linnets or twite in South Devon, England

I was walking in my normal patch in South Devon and heard a great deal of noise coming from a tree. On inspection approx 90 small birds, about the size of sparrows, were making the noise and they would suddenly take off and forage in a field filled with stubble of last years sweetcorn crop. On...

Power Shot SX10 versus Power Shot S3

Hi Cris I also have an S3 and have been looking at reviews of the SX10 IS plus the S1 1S over the Christmas period. I haven't found anything that directly compares the the S3 with these two but http://www.dpreview.com presents the data comparing the two new cameras clearly. In short it seems...
