I had a pretty good morning in the sunshine.

It’s going to rain the next two days but warm up a little. Beef Stew is in the Dutch Oven in the oven for tonight’s dinner so I’m safe.

I had a pretty good morning in the sunshine.

It may have been clear blue skies and sunshine but it was way below freezing. Good job I anticipated the cold and had on thermals and multiple layers. Mike's escape from domestic servitude. For a few hours at least;) Better cracking on cooking tonights dinner or I'll be in the doghouse.

    A Dreich Daunder.

Ok then, I’ve learned a little Scots today👍 I think it was Hedge Sparrow before it was Dunnock wasn’t it? I think I still have my ancient Observers Book of Birds somewhere, I’ll try and find it and check. That is after I clean up the cats attempt of masterpiece art in the Jackson Pollack style...

Thanks Weasel, the early lighting is always changing as the sun is low and there’s loads of trees in the way. I must have caught that just right. 👍

Dunno, they didn’t have superglue back then. 👍 I’m always on the look out for nice moss or lichen covered branches for my setups.

    22 years of Birding

I loved the winter of 62/63. Right in front of our house was a sledging hill. My Dad made me a small sledge out of electrical conduit. It was super fast and I was out on it almost every day. That hill became a sheet of ice about 4 inches thick😁

    22 years of Birding

In the UK the Winter of 62/63 was pretty brutal for much of the country. Maybe not as harsh as some places in the US but for the UK it was the coldest for a long while. Winter of 1962–1963 in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia It was particularly hard on the birds with some species being nearly...

The cream on the top of those old milk bottles kept a lot of birds alive that Winter I’m sure.

    22 years of Birding

Who remembers the Winter of 1962/1963? I remember the Blue Tits, Great Tit's and Coal Tit's pecking the tin foil milk bottle tops to get at the cream on the top of the milk bottles. That's when I became a bird watcher in the back yard and the front step! I was 10 years old.

    May Day Farm

Years ago, sometime in the mid 90's I suppose, the Forestry Commission as it was then organized an evening walk for Nightjars and Glowworms. We saw several nightjars and loads of glowworms!

    Maggots and wild birds

Yep. Understood, I was never into match fishing so regular fat juicy maggots were all I used. I never thought about feeding them to the birds though.
