    Docter (ex-Zeiss) Classic porros

I own a Docter Nobilem 10x50 and like it very much. A true quality optics binocular on the heavy but robust side. Back then sold for not much. I'd say much better than those Jenoptems. However after having obtained some Zeiss (West) Classic 7x50 the Zeiss gets used all the time. And the EDF on...

Compact comparisons: Low end vs high end

Thanks for this most interesting comparison. My parents had this small Leica. It was the only binocular you would truly always carry with you, just in case, because it actually fit in any jacket pocket. The only smaller one was my uncle's Zeiss Turmon monocular.

    All the best.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I went to some hillside forrest and watched deer on a cloudy and rainy day with my EDF 7x40.

Best “Pocket” Binoculars for Non-Birding Travel

If you really want to go light weight how about a monocular like what used to be the Zeiss Turmon? 80 Grams. https://www.das-fernglashaus.de/docter/fov6Hdocter.htm https://www.monocular.info/turmon.htm

    Travelling with expensive binoculars

I had to make a similar choice last summer going to La Palma island with an active volcano and volcanic ashes with sulfur and chemicals and all sorts of fine dust everywhere. Went for the good glass and best views. No damage and no regrets. Hiking through the local hinterland next door I often...

How do you carry your binoculars?

As I have a habit to carry more heavy binoculars like 7x50 or 10x50 I only carry them around my neck when actually watching. Otherwise, especially when hiking, I put them (one at a time) in a second hand Swiss army ammunition pouch (modified with some additional heavy duty leather carrying...

how important is resale value in the purchase of a binocular to you?

I am not sure. Look at the Nikon WX as an example of a new top performer. Another trend might be easier to hold, better balanced alphas or smaller, more lightweight sizes in general. On the other hand old alphas are mostly still nice today.

how important is resale value in the purchase of a binocular to you?

I have bought refurbished and new old stock binoculars but I don't resell my stuff. They are meant to be my personal viewing pleasure but not collector's items or investments. To be honest mine are not that rare. Sometimes binoculars feel like a dying pleasure of a limited group of aging...

    Binoculars for children

No, to see "how it works". I did this with many things as a younger child. Essentially I was treating my stuff very carefully and would not break it but at one point the interest to see inside was too strong. I still remember the prisms and how deliberate they had been fixed with metal rings and...

    Binoculars for children

My grandfather who knew about good optics and had some gave me some 8x30 as a birthday gift when I was a kid a very long time ago (I think a relabelled Zeiss Jena for the western market) which I used for many years and which founded some ongoing passion for these instruments. Unfortunately one...

    Zeiss IF 6X30

They were owned by the Zeiss group for a long time so legally Zeiss built them and used Hensoldt as their lower key military brand. Now this business got sold and separated. It is still permitted to use the Hensoldt name. (no official statement just my personal perception)

    Zeiss IF 6X30

Today the former Cassidian, then Airbus Defence and Space optronics business should be under the Hensoldt brand. https://www.hensoldt.net/products/optronics/

    Expirience with Zeiss Service bad.

I lost a small part (my fault) and got the exact needed replacement sent to me by Zeiss fast at no cost. I liked their service very much.

Inside a vintage German "Hanseat" 8x30

This reminds me of my childhood days when I loved to disassemble stuff (that never worked again afterwards) to find out how thing work and how they look inside. Unfortunately one day my nice little Revue 8x30 (I think an export version of a basic Zeiss Jena 8x30) was on my list...

    What’s your preferred cleaning method?

I try to avoid cleaning it often but have those Zeiss branded wet wiping pads. This time I went to La Palma Island, Canary Islands, looking at the new volcano and there is a lot of bad lava dust blowing around containing sulfur and phosphor and other acid stuff. That must be quite a pain to...

    New Genesis Models?

What would you like to be changed? I have never looked through one but I heard they are exceptional because of the partial fluoride glass.

How about making her wanting you to buy a good binocular? Like donating some innocent nice bird book to her or similar?

Military, military grade, consumer - what's what?

In the old days sometimes the military had some of the best quality binoculars of their time. Like the Zeiss 8x60 U-Boat-commander's binocular. (Sort of a WW2 "WX") And likely many other naval binoculars before and after were of higher quality when visual observation was key to hitting any...

    'RetroPorro' a Possibility says Leica

I did something similar and did buy a new Zeiss 7x50 Classic. So enjoyable. Just a perfect view and not that bulky or heavy at all. There must be many famous Leitz binoculars that everybody would want for sure. Imagine latest glass and coatings on an old classic. Sounds good. How about the...

    Royal Navy current use binoculars?

I seem to remember Vinten professional cameras and lenses from the UK. Both for TV and defence and very high quality. So they must at least have had some serious top level optical industry. It sounds more like today they are more focussed on mounts and such? https://www.vinten.com...

Where are made the Conquest HD

Somebody claimed the early ones were made by Kamakura in Japan. Not sure if they were moved elsewhere? Look where some parts for some "Swiss made" watches come from... Looking at the final product the Conquest HD are some great binocular. I still would prefer to get more unobstructed...

The 7x42 FL would be nice to be available again.

    Victory FL discontinued?

While doing very well functionally being both light weight and long lasting the "plastic" case was not received well with all premium customers. The FL was some good old school model still being made in Germany. Unfortunately for me but proving their value they were still pricey until the...
