    Anybody still out there?

Looks like the go-to bird guiding operation in PN Los Haitises is Booking Adventures, as recommended by Kate at Tody Tours.

    Anybody still out there?

I'm still out here. I don't live in DR but am very grateful to Niels for his Tody Tours suggestion. I've been searching for a guide for PN Los Haitises for this November and it's hard to get away from all of the non-birding tourism operators. I really don't want to be taken to a beautiful beach...

    Greater Scuap or Tufted Duck?

    Where were they seen?

This is a fake shot, surely - petrels?

I am not enough of a pelagic expert to ID the species, but surely these are petrels superimposed in front of the aircraft? Photo seen on an aviation forum on facebook, so I have no info on the purported location or date. (Lufthansa A380, I can ID that bird well enough).

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Can anyone verify that this is a fake shot? I am thinking that this is a shot of some variety of petrel (I stand corrected if a different species) taken offshore and superimposed in front of the Lufthansa A380?

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

I've just mentioned this thread to my wife of 15 years and she casually mentioned that her uncle owns a Spitfire and can fly it too. Stored at Hendon, she thinks. He also owns Eastern Airways - I did know that part. Sadly, as I am in British Columbia, neither bits of info are particularly useful.

App usage 101 - do apps use data?

Thanks everyone...you made me feel my question had some validity, at least! I'll try that airplane mode idea, thanks for the suggestion. Never used roaming before, and I don't want to be a casualty...

App usage 101 - do apps use data?

I know this question is SO basic it might appear unbelievable to some that I could be posting it, but I am new to smartphones. And to apps. Let alone birding with a phone and a birding app. We all have to start somewhere: so if I load the Collins app, will I need data to access it in the field...

    Lesvos Bird Reports 2018

Aegean flight changes I second that advice from Mick - Aegean cancelled my flight out at first light April 17th, meaning a complete route re-think. I lose a night on the island, sadly.

Does this means you are going to update your blog soon Gregor?

    Zapata day trip

Hi Stuart, apologies for hijacking someone else's message, but you seem helpful: how is the situation in Cuba when it comes to wandering around with a camera, binoculars and notebook? I know the locals have a reputation for being very friendly...but that was also meant to be the case in the...

    Scope essential?

I am almost the opposite of you, having never owned a scope. I feel a little clueless on coasts, although I've prowled a few beaches around the world over the last 10 years. Life list approaching 3000 but the sea is not an environment I am familiar with. Parents used to live in Bowness (but...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Having worked for Landor, a design agency specializing in aircraft liveries, I am totally convinced that if KLM had approached us for a 'brand refresh' with the current livery (as in your photo) with the forward blue cheatline swooping downwards, we would have spent hundreds of thousands of...

    Lesvos Bird Reports 2018

Hi Mick, I hope to be over in unfashionable early April. Coming from inland British Columbia. So will do my best to support the local economy. I may post the odd question beforehand now that I have discovered the forum. It will be my first visit to the island. I hope my visit will help someone...

    Scope essential?

Thanks for the replies. Heresy....but I'll take the bisque over the Harlequins (and Barrow's G'eye, for that matter) as I am from inland Canada where those are my locals and not exactly sought-after. Gulls are of a lot more interest, so thanks for the reassurance. I am not much of a sea-watcher...

    Scope essential?

Apologies if this appears to be a very naiive Q: I am only able to stop over on the island for one day, 3pm - 3pm, April 11/12th. I cannot travel with a scope - is this an absolute essential to see/ID a variety of species on the near coast? I realize that, of course, it would be better than...

    Iceland in early April

Me too So I'm not the only mad one heading out there in early April? Good to know. I hope to break my trip from Lesvos back to Vancouver but I'm jealous as I will only get one day in Reykjavik. Sorry I can't help, but will be watching the replies (I hope).
