Is it me, my eyes, or what?

You mean I've been doing it wrong all this time! I have been doing the pot luck approach... I have driven past Loch Spelve a few times on the rickety road to Lochbuie where I'm staying. Maybe I'll have a proper look along there tomorrow. My fifth time to Mull, maybe somewhere different next...

Is it me, my eyes, or what?

Thanks for the info, unfortunately I only have one day left... A bit of luck and patience are required, actually quite a bit of patience ;) That goes for driving on Mull as well... sorry for going off topic somewhat.

Is it me, my eyes, or what?

Hi Lee I'm actually on Mull this week, so similar to your usual locations. I have had a few sightings of them in the sea just off shore but only a brief glimpse of one fully out of the water... Plenty of sea birds though! Steve

Is it me, my eyes, or what?

I've just spent the last two hours or so scanning for Otters... not very successfully I might add. Perhaps I need better binoculars, or eyes ;)

    New binoculars required.

The site (I think) that you have seen the Leica safari edition does have a 'no quibble return policy' so it might be worth a look...

    Leica Duovid

Well I've resisted so far, mainly due to the weight and narrow fov...

    Leica Duovid

Agreed, and with the weather we're having over here at the moment there's no excuse not to get out... Although it is rather hot! |8.|

    Leica Duovid

Haha, I'm already over complicating things I think... should just enjoy what I already have. Still tempted though...

    Leica Duovid

Thanks both for your replies It was birds of prey I was trying to watch the other day with 8x32s that made me think of the Duovids, just so happens I found a pair reduced today... Now I'm even more tempted... just need to sell another pair first really.

    Leica Duovid

Thanks for your reply. They're about £1150 for a opened box pair so thought that seemed fairly cheap, relatively speaking anyway... Aren't they supposed to stay in focus when changing magnification? Or do you mean just trying to focus in 12x? Thanks

    Leica Duovid

Hello Leica people Does anyone have any long term opinion of the 8-12x42 Duovid? I'm currently looking at a pair online for what seems a reasonable price and wondered if they're the best of both worlds or would end up not being used because of their limitations, fov and weight mainly. I'm...

    Springwatch 2018

I'll be disappointed if it is only from the US, one of the main reasons I watch Springwatch etc is because they concentrate on the UK.

    Springwatch 2018

I got the impression it was the whole series, although Chris said a one off... confused! It airs on the 15th October which is when Autumnwatch usually starts.

    Springwatch 2018

Not everyone will be happy whoever the presenters are. Next series... Main presenters; Chris P and Lindsay Chapman Roving reporter; Lolo Williams Pre-recorded items; Gillian or others Although I have a feeling there might be bigger changes...

    Springwatch 2018

I think this series is as good as it usually is, the only disappointing thing for me is there's no Unsprung this year. Oh and I think GB is improving (slightly) and certainly doesn't ruin the programme for me, she's only on screen for about five minutes.

    Red Kites near Swindon ....

Looks like the Red kites are on the increase in Wiltshire, saw several fairly local to me recently, Foxham and Compton Bassett in particular.

    Springwatch 2017

Really, totally bored? Has it been that different to the last few years? I'm not a fully fledged birder so maybe that's why the location hasn't bothered me.

Several days birding with Monarch HG 8X42

Just thought I'd add my opinion of the HG's after comparing them with the Conquest HD 8x32 and 10x42 while on holiday. First of all they are very light for an 8x42, quite noticeable compared to the Conquest 10x42 which I think are roughly the same weight as the 8x42 Conquest. I still prefer...

Nikons - where would they rank?

Yes, I did mean a replacement for the EDG II as it's been around for quite a while and doesn't seem to get the same attention as the 'top three' brands.

Nikons - where would they rank?

I'm not sure this answers the original question but the new Monarch HG is definitely a match for the Zeiss Conquest HD. Perhaps they'll release an alpha quality equivalent at some point...

    High power bino vs scope

As luck would have it, I just found out that I'm working fairly close to Clifton Cameras tomorrow, hopefully I might have time to pop in. But do I want to spend £1000 on something for occasional use... I don't have anyone to question my purchases, not always a good thing!

    High power bino vs scope

I think the doubler would be handy for when out walking but maybe not so much for prolonged use, which is why I'd prefer the binocular route rather than a scope. I'm not sure why (maybe I'm weird) but I just can't seem to find a comfortable view with a scope, I agree that for long distances...

    High power bino vs scope

Hello, thanks for your reply. I'm north Wilts so about an hour from Clifton Cameras, they sell the Zeiss 15x56 as well (I don't think Ace do, looking at their website) so might be worth comparing the two. I contacted Clifton last year about selling a DSLR camera to them which I never got around...

    High power bino vs scope

Thanks all again for your suggestions, there are some interesting ones for sure. I would use it mostly hand held, maybe the Canon IS 15x or even 18x might be an option... I need to find somewhere to demo one. I have about five months to decide!

    High power bino vs scope

Thanks to both for your replies. The Opticron UTA looks interesting, especially when out walking, something I'll look into. It's more for holiday use for when I'm out in the car and don't want to set my scope up etc. I usually leave it set up in the cottage I'm staying in. I can't find...
