    Big Year--CO Birds

Hey guys, A friend challenged me to a big year, and a steak dinner is on the line so I'd like to come out ahead. We went with a list of strictly CO birds. It's his list, and has 500 birds or so. I have a couple trips to the SW corner and Pawnee planned but I would greatly appreciate any advice...

    USA CO falcon ID, Merlin?

Posted before I saw hawk comment, any specific one? Thought falcon because of size, it was certainly bigger than a kestrel but looked smaller than a hawk.

    USA CO falcon ID, Merlin?

Didn't get a picture of it while flying, but thinking back on it the pattern under the wings looked akin to prairie falcon. Black marginal coverts and mostly white elsewhere. Thanks!

    USA CO Hawk Confirmation

Northern Harrier? Seen in June in Fort Collins. White rump makes me 90% sure but sharp shinned hawk seems like a possibility still... have more pics of underside if needed. It was being pestered by a few red winged blackbirds.

Great, thanks for the help. Still learning obviously... out of curiousity, american or lesser goldfinch? Didn't consider it since I would have expected an orange bill.
