    Got back last night from a week of working in Freetown. Didnt get out of town, but still saw qite a lot of bird. Most of the I have ID from my book of Southern Africa Birds, but these guys elude me.

    A lunchtime first!

    Popped home for some lunch just now, and not only were there a pair of Goldfinches on the feeder, but a Goldcrest bobbing about in the bush behind. Must have been there for a good 10 mins. Seeing we live in Ilford (east London suburb), i was very pleased to see Goldcrest.

    Best outfit for £400 +/-

    As per the title, I'm allowed to spend up to £400 on my 1st scope, and ideally would be looking for a package with cover and fixed 30x wa eyepiece. Something on the small/portable side. I've considered the MM3, which comes in at just over £400, as well as some older Opticron models (i.e GS665)...
