Thank you. That is really helpful. We’re these viewing from the car? Or were you walking?

    Visiting Reykjavik 30 September

I am visiting Reykjavik with my son for three days 30 Aug to 2 Sept. I am hiring a car for the three days. Two days will be doing the usual touristy things on the golden circle but we will have one day for dedicated birding. Can anyone advise of where to incorporate some birding in the golden...

    Geneva / Mt Saleve

I have an afternoon up Mt Saleve on Sunday 25 October and an early morning in Geneva on 26 October. Can anyone give me any pointers of what I might expect in these areas? Is Alpine Accentor or Snowfinch a possibility up Mt Saleve. Really not expecting much in this area at this time of year...

    Swiss Trip Unidentified Birds

The call did make me think of Meadow Pipit but they were too small and short legged. I did see Linnet lower down at around 1500ft but this was much higher 6000ft ish and there was definitely no individuals with any read on them. Also definitely too dark for linnet. My gut said Alpine...

    Swiss Trip Unidentified Birds

Considered F Black Grouse and it was too light for that. I am familiar with Black Grouse so was quite sure it could not be that. Collins Bird Guide shows Hazel Hen to be paler but I guess I can never rule out paler/albino Pheasant/Female Black Grouse. The habitat seemed wrong for Pheasant and...

    Switzerland - Interlaken - Neiderhorn - 24&25 Aug 2015

Thanks to some great advice on this forum I have just had a brilliant visit to Switzerland. Highlights on the birding front were Black Woodpecker, plenty of Nutcracker, Alpine Swift (at Bern just as you said), Citril Finch, Alpine Chough, and the icing on the cake - a juvenile Lammergeier. I...

    Unidentified Owl - Interlaken

Any suggestions as to this bird? Long-eared Owl? Tengmalm's? The picture is taken from immediately below the bird so makes the head look smaller. When it flew it had pale underwings and a slightly pointed tail. Thanks for any help.

    Switzerland Birding

Thanks again chaps. Sadly I don't think we will make it to Lucerne. I hadn't appreciated the connection with water for Wallcreepers. Is it still-water or streams/rivers? How far do they tend to move away from the water? It sounds like a late morning visit to Schilthorn is in order. I...

    Switzerland Birding

Thank you chaps. It might be possible that we would be in Lucerne but we will be travelling back home through Bern by train, and we have 1.5 hours there changing trains around 8 and 9 in the morning so if I have dipped on Alpine Swift I might pick them up there. I would love to get down to...

    Switzerland Birding

Hi. I am going to be based in Interlaken, Switzerland during August on a family holiday but hope to combine this with some birding whilst we are out and about. I am aware of the Schilthorn top and its Lammergier, Alpine Chough, Alpine Accentor and Snowfinch, but I am looking for any other...
