    Funny ad

Title:"Binoculars Scanlux 8x30 Goated" I guess the seller meant to say Coated. The Zeiss 8x60 fat/tall boy and the Nikon WX 10x50 are GOATed.

    Lens covers

The photos show a Zeiss 12x50 (about 1919) with retractable lens covers that shield the objective lenses against glare and rain. No current binos I am aware of make use of this neat idea (more than 100 years old).

    Large number deception

    FoV=5m/500000m , who doesn't like that?

I have received the following message from Amazon.uk: -------------------------- Hello, Nikon has published a safety notification about the below product that you have bought on Amazon.co.uk due to the risk of potential non-conformity with REACH regulation. Product: Nikon Monarch 5 12 x 42...

    Negative FoV

Often times the specs published by different retailers contain typos, and B&H is no exception: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/755583-USA/Steiner_5561_Nighthunter_XP_10x56_Roof.html/specs For some reason many FoV values posted by B&H are wrong, but negative FoV, really?

    Clouds on the horizon?

For example: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/family-feud-rages-swarovski-empire-094239373.html We can only hope that the binocular business won't be badly affected.

    Rolling Ball/ Globe Effect Statistics

There are claims that very few people notice the RB effect. Some people advance figures as low as 2%. Others claim that this figure is higher, possibly much higher. To settle this dispute we can try to estimate this percentage at least for a sample of the BF members. I'll go first: 1 1 0 0...

    Zeiss 14x42S anytime soon?

I would love to see a Zeiss 14x42S, mechanically stabilized like the 20x60S, with a FoV of 5*, a close focus of less than 3m (the big brother's close focus of about 14m is not really suitable for many daytime observation activities) and weight less than 1Kg . Would such a 14x42S be too...

Dioptric correction range of Canon IS bins

I do not know if anybody at Canon reads these posts but I'll take my chance: the current dioptric compensation range of +/-3 puts off quite a few users; make it +/-4 as for many other good bins brands! Peter P.S. I hope that posting this suggestion in a new thread might increase its chance of...

    Zen-Ray and Opticron 8x42 monoculars

In my search for the "best monocular" (see: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=296552) I have come across the Zen-Ray ZRS 8x42 and the Opticron Oasis DBA 8x42. The Specwell and Walters monoculars reviewed in the cited thread are good for what they are (small/light 7x25s or 8x30s), but...

    Excellent Monocular

Monoculars are not as good as binoculars for nature observation (except for people who lack binocular vision). However monoculars are much lighter and can be easily carried by sliding them into a jeans pocket. This was my main reason for wishing to buy a monocular. When I go for a walk I would...

    Wrong Binoculars Specs--Collection of Examples

The published binos specs are often wrong. Sometimes this is just negligence (the right hand does not know what the left one is doing...), but sometimes it seems to be something else. I thought it might be useful to have a collection of examples of such wrong specs (in posts bearing the binos...
