Lightest tripod / head : Swaro ATS 65

I have had great success with the heads at Outdoorsmans.com. I have two of their heads and they are all metal, very lightweight and rock steady. You may be able to use one of their heads that weighs only 23oz for your setup.

What are all those turkey vultures in Almaden eating?

It could be that there was a carcass visible only from those heights or maybe they were just riding some thermals? Sounds like a nice day though.

    What if......

Bill, Thanks. I have gone to Bear Basin which used to have a decent shop off Willow Pass Rd, they have since moved to a much smaller place. I bought a pair of 10x50 EL's there a month or so ago. I'll check out the place in Novato when I pass through. Thanks

    What if......

Jan, I am fairly new to the forum but this was a fascinating thread to read, in a bad way. I hope your shop continues to do well. I live in northern California and finding a shop that stocks high end optics where you can make side by side comparisons before you buy is difficult to find. Good Luck!

Tripod/head for Swarovski 80mm STS scope

AP, I can only speak to the Fluid Head as that's what I own, sorry. It is buttery smooth motion. I live in Berkeley so I can't speak to temps below 40F really, tough living I know! It can be adjusted to zero drag very easily in fact, from zero to locked is a short twist frankly, you don't have...

Tripod/head for Swarovski 80mm STS scope

I would suggest the Fluid Pan Head from Outdoorsmans.com. It's rated at 20+ lbs, made of aluminum and weighs just 23oz. I have had one for a couple months and it holds my Kowa 883 with Sony A7lll rock solid. You don't have to crank down on the pan or tilt settings to get the rig to stay in...

    Hello from Berkeley, CA

Hello All, Just a quick hello to all. I have read a bit on the boards here and really enjoy the fact that so many like minded people, for the most part, are gathered in one place. A very casual birder here, carry binos(Vanguard 8.5x45) in my car. A great sighting for me is to be driving...
