    Osprey subspecies?

I saw this lovely pair in the Everglades National Park. The bird to the left seems an obvious "American Osprey", carolinensis. The bird on the right seems quite pale, however. Is it a possible ridgwayi? Thanks!

Palo Alto California - Whimbrel vs Curlew

    1) I am fairly certain that this a Whimbrel, but a bit earlier I saw 2) and thought that this was a Long-billed Curlew. In retrospect, the one Long-billed I had seen previously had a much longer bill and a bit more color. Now I'm not sure what #2 is? Is this an immature or...? Thanks!

SW Florida USA - possible Tropical Kingbird?

The 'default' Western is seasonal visitor at best. Our real default should be the Eastern. To be honest, I have no idea why the Western shows up this far east, even for winter, given that the summer range is pretty much west of the Mississippi River. In the meantime, I truly thought that...

Seen in October in Palo Alto Baylands. 1 - 2) At first I thought the dark underwing spot was odd shadow play, but now I don't think so. Who has this? 3 - 4) I have been unable to find a clear ID match for this sparrow. At least it was willing to pose for the pics. 5) Dowitcher or...? Thanks...

North Carolina USA - Downy vs Hairy

1 -2 Same bird. Downy or hybrid? There are spots on the right side of the tail, but the spots to the left are very faint. Is the feather a fluke? 3 - 5 Same bird, but I don't think it is the same as the first. (They were seen near the same location, a riverside park.) I know Hairy are...

Mountain View, California USA - longshot sparrow

Seen in late October, only a couple of yards from the Bay. I tried Birdnet twice; each time it could not give a certain ID, but suggested Brewer's Sparrow. The sound quality was so bad (vehicles, equipment, wind, waves, people, at al) that I am surprised that the app could make any suggestions...

    Which Warbler? Virginia 10/13/23

If you look really carefully, there is a small, faint patch of yellowish color on the side of the bird, next to the 'wingpit.' Yellow-rumpeds always seem to have that. Sometimes it is very strong and bright; other times it is barely noticeable, but still there.
