Praying mantids, Surin island, Pang Nga, TH.

This one would be Phyllothelis werneri, mostly seen (origin?) in Taïwan... Maybe Hierodula venosa but I also get different IDs, Acromantini tribe, etc.

    Grasshopers, Thailand

Phang Nga, maybe Acrida cinerea. Khao Yai, maybe Gonista bicolor. Only AI IDs so far...

    Snakes, Khao Yai, TH.

For the first one I was thinking King cobra because I have seen grey ones like this, maybe someone can tell based on the scales only? It was at least 2 meters long. Second one much smaller, maybe 60 cm or less, AI tells me Speckle-bellied keelback Rhabdophis chrysargos, not sure the species is...

    Amolops frog, Phan nga, TH?

Not sure about the genus, Anolops comes from online tools...

    SE Asia Moths

Pangna and Petchaburi, TH, suggested species as file name, apparently common species?

Clean bins from fine sand and salt

Eyecups always get gripped when using them on the sea/beach/boat, even rinsing with fresh water projected with moderate pressure is not enough to remove all grit. I know I could send them for some professional cleaning (to Nikon), but I'd prefer to wait for something more serious. Any advice?

    Oriental Honey-buzzards, Thai Surin islands

For confirmation... much less common than the Sea-Eagles and Brahminy Kites!

    Raptors western central Thailand

First looks like Nisaetus in Mae Wong, the pattern both striated then barred suggests Blyth's Hawk-Eagle, but the tail and range don't really fit... so maybe Mountain or Crested Hawk-Eagle? Second looks like Imperial eagle to me, near Petchaburi. Third is much smaller, maybe Booted eagle, but...

    Thailand, late 2023...

The plan is to start from Bangkok end of november, rent a car and visit main national parks and similar places, starting northwards. I'm more a nature lover than a list addict, so I won't drive all around the country in a month (I already tried once). Ideally the point would be to share costs...

Eyes of love: Java sparrows increase eye ring conspicuousness when pair-bonded

Eyes of love: Java sparrows increase eye ring conspicuousness when pair-bonded Funny quote : "Interestingly, we observed that males have larger eye rings in the pair-bonded and single conditions, but not in the non-preferred partner condition. This can be interpreted as that males suppressed...

Best bird guide/apps for South East Asia?

My first idea is to replace my paper guide with an Android app that (also) works offline. Of course some added features would be nice, sounds, geolocation, lists, but not too complicated to use. I think I tried eBird long ago but although interesting it was not practical for me at this time...

    Tipula sp. Switzerland

I only find T. maxima and T. vernalis on the local app, but this looks more like T. olaracea or T. paludosa? Are these the eggs/larvas it/she is taking care of?

    Flies, Switzerland.

First should be Tachina fera, 2nd looks a bit like a Norellisoma but not exactly, 3rd one also a Tachinid, I'm sure I have already seen them but I can't find the same pattern by browsing web pictures...

    Wasp, Switzerland, ID?

Small wasp, doing something on a blade of grass... Edit: looks like Amblyteles armatorius (female).

    Butterfly, orange and black, Switzerland

Is it possible to ID without the other side? Average size, maybe a Fritillary, looks a bit like a female Dark Green, Speyeria aglaja, but these are not common at low altitude, I suppose Marbled fritillary is the most common?

    Blond flycatcher, Switzerland

I only get Pied and Spotted here, but the head looks funny on this one!

    Moths ID Switzerland

    Not even sure the 1st is a moth... 1 & 2 look quite similar, 4 & 5 are the same. 1 - 3 are from last month.

    Bats ID looking at spectrograms?

I found these ultrasonic 'traces' while parsing recent night recordings, lowland countryside, West Switzerland/France. Typ_1 and Typ_2 look more like rodents or insects to me, but they are also very rare occurences and differ from the 4-5 species of grasshopers/crickets that can go on for...

Moth on a nymph of Southern hawker

Coincidence, I suppose. I came back hours later it was still there.

    Funny bugs, Switzerland countryside

The smaller one might be a Cassida species? The other looks like a beetle, but why not a Chrysomelidae like the 1st?

    Tiny Butterfly Switzerland

It's maybe 1 centimeter wide, looks diurnal, very active at noon...

    Small grasshoppers, Switzerland/France border

They all look different but I suppose they are Meadow Grasshoppers (last 2 pictures) Pseudochorthippus_parallelus, and Common Field Grasshopper Chorthippus brunneus? The 4th picture looks different, maybe the 5th too... Very hard to shoot with a lot of wind and hot temperatures, and I'm not into...

Shrew, Switzerland / France (Sorex, Crocidura sp. ?)

Is there a way to ID the species? It has been digested, so only the skin and bones are left, see the skinny tail... I understand teeth should be red for Sorex (minutus, small size?), or is that's also the effect of digestion.... or Crocidura russula?

    Pentatomomorpha bug, Switzerland

This one looks less common than the bugs I'm used to... (bigger pics if needed but I don't see much difference, or from the side). Not even sure Pentatomomorpha is correct? Looks a bit like Coreus marginatus but not exactly what I see on other pictures...

    Feces, West Switzerland

First looks like rabbit, maybe caecotroph, but squirrel's also look like this, less round than rabbit's? Second could be a badger? A bit small but young badgers are out now... it was 50 meters away from the 1st. Third was between 1 & 2, looks like deer.
