16–20·5 cm (6¼-8 in)

Distribution

Asia: China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas, Bangladesh, Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Malay Peninsula, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra

Taxonomy

Formerly considered conspecific with Black-throated Prinia.

Subspecies

5 subspecies^[1]:

• P. a. erythropleura:

• Myanmar (southern Shan States, Kayah and Tenasserim) to northern Thailand

• P. a. superciliaris:

• Hills of eastern Myanmar to southern China (Yunnan), northern Laos and northern Vietnam

• P. a. waterstradti:

• Highlands of eastern Malaysia (Gunong Tahan)

• P. a. klossi:

• High plateaus of southern Laos and southern Vietnam

• P. a. dysancrita:

• Hills of western Sumatra

Habitat

Scrub, clearings, grassy and cultivated areas.

Behaviour

Diet

Their main diet consists mostly of insects and their larvae. They generally forage singly or in pairs.
