Buarremon assimilis

Identification

19–20 cm

Found on the eastern slopes of the Andes in eastern Colombia and western Venezuela.

Four subspecies recognized^[1]:

A. a. larensis in the Andes of western Venezuela
A. a. assimilis from the Andes of Colombia to western Venezuela, Ecuador and northwest Peru
A. a. nigrifrons in the Andes of southwest Ecuador and northwest Peru
A. a. poliophrys in the Andes of central and southeast Peru

It was formerly included in Stripe-headed Brush Finch. It has in the past been placed in genus Atlapetes and is also placed in Buarremon by some authorities.

Shrubby areas and borders in temperate zone, cloud Forest, dwarf/elfin highland tree-line forest.

Usually fouraging on ground or very low in undergrowth.
