A genus which is not (yet) accepted by most authorities. If accepted it would contain 13 to 17 (or 20 with split) species:

• Scaly Laughingthrush
• Brown-capped Laughingthrush
• Blue-winged Laughingthrush
• Brown-cheeked Laughingthrush
• Elliot's Laughingthrush
• Variegated Laughingthrush
• White-whiskered Laughingthrush
• Black-faced Laughingthrush
• Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush sometimes split in:
  • Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush
  • Assam Laughingthrush
  • Silver-eared Laughingthrush
  • Malayan Laughingthrush
• Golden-winged Laughingthrush
• Collared Laughingthrush
• Red-winged Laughingthrush
• Red-tailed Laughingthrush
• Grey-breasted Laughingthrush (also placed in Strophocincla)
• Rufous-breasted Laughingthrush (also placed in Strophocincla)
• Streaked Laughingthrush (also placed in Strophocincla)
• Striped Laughingthrush (also placed in Strophocincla)

They share coloured wingpanels, a dark plumage (usually rich brown) and the flight-feathers lack pale tips.

Trochalopteron is a genus in the Family Timaliidae.
This genus is commonly merged in the genus Garrulax.
